Matt Cassel will turn into the next AJ Feeley

Remember how he looked so good with Philly that one year?  It was because of the talent around him.  Then, he moved to a less talented team and what happened?  He fell apart.

Cassel is the same, only he looks ten times better because the 2008 Patriots had so much more talent than then 2002 Eagles on offense.

Kevin O'Connell is a guy that both Philly and myself...and a few others, I believe, were really high on this guy as a late round developmental QB for Miami, if they didn't go QB early (like they eventually did with Henne). I think he's going to be a good one if allowed to develop properly.

Throwing an unquotable source into the mix here I thought I read.....Brady is set to count for $15M, A franchise tage would put Cassell at $14M, the cap for next season is set at $123M leaving $93M for the rest of the roster.....

I don't think Belichick is going to be sentimental, I think the front office will be, Brady is the face of the franchise.

I think they franchise Cassell and dangle Brady to see what's on offer for him.  If Cassell had started the season the way he finished it, Pats would have made the playoffs give or take an injury or two.

I don't see BB paying for both to the tune of $28.5 M.  That is a lot for one position.

1. If Brady is not going to be able to play this year, but wants to return to NE I could see them restructuring his deal and tagging or signing MC for one year.

2. If Brady is healthy enough to play, one of them will be traded. MC is less of a risk than anyone you could draft, notwithstanding the AJ Feely comments. Still better than Ryan Leaf. 

3. Brady could retire and Patriots could sign Cassel long term.

75 QB rating, 1,011 yards, 6 TDs, 5 ints.

Cassell this year:

89 QB rating, 3,693 yards, 21 TDs, 11 ints.  That's not to mention the 270 yards rushing and two more rushing TDs.

Nice try, not even close.  No offense but I can't stand it when people hate just to hate.  Feeley is / was / always will be a career back up that no one should have ever attempted to make a starting QB out of.  Cassell is a kid with all the tools in the world to be a franchise QB.

I believe Matt Cassel would not perform anywhere near as good on a team like the Detroit Lions or Oakland Raiders.

Neither would Tom Brady, Joe Montana or John Elway... Aside from maybe WR, no position is more dependent on their supporting cast than QB.

I think Cassell automatically upgrades the Detroit Lions.  They have weapons on the offensive side of the ball.  I also think he upgrades Oakland, who also has the ability to put up numbers.

I will mention some teams that Cassell instantly makes into a deep playoff threat:  Seattle, Minnesota, NY Jets, Chicago, and Tampa Bay.

Each one of those teams is missing a few pieces, the largest of which is a big arm behind center that makes good decisions.  Matt Cassell on any one of those teams turns them instantly from middle of the pack teams to deep playoff threats.

Scott Mitchell?

I think you might be remember this guy a bit more fondly than his success really was in Mia.  He went 3-4.  That is a losing record.  And the Dolphins fell apart that year squandering a 9-2 season start and ending 9-7.   

Cassel has a winning record in NE.

SM also took the Lions to the playoffs twice.  He really wasn't all that great for the Dolphins nor too horrible for the Lions.
