Apparently, there's been discussions between Huizenga and Parcells. My guess, from what the report tells us, is that Parcells looked Huizenga in the eye and told him he wasn't going anywhere.

I hope it's correct, but after the Nick Saban debacle, who can trust Huizenga's judgment in this area?

I despise H. Wayne Huizenga, which makes me glad he's selling the team.  But I agree with the sentiment, and I think most Dolphins fans agree.

Parcells knows he has this team on the right track, but his work here is far from finished.  All he wanted was to build the team and run it his way.  Let the marketing guys do the sales and promoting and handling the stadium events, but any decision regarding players or coaches is totally up to him and no one else.  I'm willing to bet Ross gave him that assurance.

Not so fast...

Does anyone think that Ross would be capable of hiring Peterson over Parcells?

An uneasy feeling -- [Newsy update here]

This morning I filed the post the follows below. But I have an update.

I have confirmed that former Kansas City president and general manager Carl Peterson was at the Dolphins game Sunday. The fact, first reported by profootballtalk.com, makes me wonder what is really going to happen with these Dolphins in the coming days.

Peterson, I am told, was not only cozying up to incoming owner Stephen Ross during the playoff game against Baltimore, he was on the Miami sideline with Ross prior to the game. And get this: He was wearing a Dolphins pin on his lapel.

And he was overheard talking about the Dolphins as, "We." and "We're." So it sounds like Peterson believes he's going to soon be part of the Dolphins organization in some capacity. Ross and Peterson go back 25 years. Peterson was the general manager of the USFL's Philadelphia Stars and Ross was the team's general manager.

All this leads me to wonder, how can Ross bring in Peterson and keep Bill Parcells? It would have to happen only if Peterson comes in exclusively on the business side.

Anyway, here's the text of the post I put on the blog early this morning....

At least if that happens, it'll be Stephen Ross to blame, and not Bill Parcells.

Then it'll be status quo for the Dolphins: asshole in ownership.

But why assume just because Ross and Peterson are close that he'll push out Bill Parcells?  Would Ross happily forget that Peterson ran the Chefs (great googly moogly) into the ground?

The Carl Peterson story was reported by PFT?   Then you need to take that story with a grain of salt, Nextseason.

I heard that Jimmy Buffett was at the game as well...and now I'm worried that the Dolphins might relocate to Margaritaville in the offseason.

Or maybe not...

Apparently Ross and Peterson have known each other for quite some time..... but bringing in Peterson wouldn't interfere with Parcells job.  Instead, Bryan Weidmeyer and Joe Bailey should be the ones shaking in their boots.

at first i was like eh, this is nothing that we already didn't know when parcells first came to miami. everyone knew the team was being sold, and everyone was ok with it. seemed like a non-story at this point...

now we find out that coincidentally carl "run an organization into the ground" peterson and this new owner are best buds, and he was hanging out, being very visible on the game on sunday!!! this can't sit too well with parcells at all, and the silence on setting the record straight coming from his camp is quite telling.

this just doesn't smell right, and i am starting to prepare myself for the worse news that we could ever get. good grief this freaking organization must be cursed.

I'll believe Parcell's is not opting out when two things happen.

1:  I hear it from his mouth

2: The deadline for him opting out has past.

Until then.  I see no reason for him to not opt out & try to land another deal with Ross.

Him opting out will have nothing to do with him wanting to leave Miami, just makes good business sense.   He can land 4 years pay for one, then sign a 3 year deal with Ross for another 9 million & walk out of Miami in 3 years with 21 million instead of 12.

Hyde writes a good piece on Ross taking a few bad first steps.
