It could be a problem with the software.  Have her take it to the AT&T store and have them upgrade the software.

She described the problem to me - its not a battery or software issue. 

(OK, it could be a software issue, but if it was it'd have been fixed by now, since the Curve software is used everywhere)

It sounds to me like its a short in the power circuit, causing excssive current draw someplace and battery drains too fast.  I offered to take a look at it.
