As expected, the Ravens slapped their franchise tag on linebacker Terrell Suggs, guaranteeing the six-year veteran a $10.2 million salary in 2009.

Now, fellow LBs Ray Lewis and Bart Scott are scheduled to become unrestricted free agents, free to test the market.


Well, Suggs might be out of the picture, but Scott will be on the market.  That would be a helluva improvement from Crowder.

Sproles got the non-exclusive as well.

Dansby will now make $9.7 million while Sproles is set to earn $6.6 million.

I took it that Tommy meant the Ravens need to resign their players which is legal and not tampering at all.

You really think that teams will go so far as to hit them up with tampering charges?  Look at the blog that 619 posted in Dolphins Discussion.  Bottom line is, deals can and will be negotiated WAY BEFORE free agency begins.  There's a reason why there is a flurry of activity usually on the first day.

I disagree...Scott if anything, brings the wood when he hits guys.  That can get in the other teams head, and it is something we lack on our defense.  We need someone that can hurt people and make big plays, and I believe Scott can do that.  Peppers if off the market (at least for us) and so is Dansby.  It is okay to spend some money on a guy from time to time.

If I had my way we would get Scott in FA, draft Mack/Robinson, Sean Smith, Ron Brace/ Louis Murphy, and Barden/Nic Harris.  That would improve or team tremendously from last year.  Resigning Bell would be nice too...all the others can walk though.

^^6perhapsmbut again playing next to R.Lewis,and T.Suggs then having Ed Reed behind you.... Other than 2006 when he had 9.5 sacks...they still don't scream massive upgrade,over Crowder....Will also be 29 years old....
