Why does Boston want Marbury?

He hasn't played in a year, it is VERY questionable if he is even good considering his ball hogging, and he is the ultimate cancer in the locker room. Why would the defending champs want him? I hope they do get him now that the Knicks have reached a buyout with Marbury, I hate the Celtics. It just makes no sense to me that a team with a very real shot at repeating would make such a drastic move.

Because Boston's second team needs more scoring.  The bench is a little thin.  It's a good move.

I'm just hoping he becomes a cancer to the team. No doubt the guy has talent (assuming he isn;t rusty from his time off) but he can create a distraction. That's all I am hoping for.

If he does he's gone.  He needs Boston more than Boston needs him.  I don't think people understand that he'll be gone as quickly as he came if he doesn't work out.  This is a no-risk move by Boston...and Starbury's only chance to get a decent contract for next season.  It's his audition after not playing for two seasons (basically).

He deserves whatever ill treatment he gets.  He's the main reason why Isaiah Thomas was cut loose after last season.  If I were Isaiah and one of my players refused to make a trip with the team after being told he couldn't play, I would've cut the selfish bum on the spot.

cutting him is what he wanted .. the knicks are still paying his salary for the rest of the season .. if they wanted to screw with him .. they'd have kept him on the roster until march 2nd and then cut him

i think this is much to do about nothing .. he's out of shape and hasn't played a game in over a year .. he isn't going to be ready to contribute significantly to put boston over the top .. i still see them as a 3 seed and getting knocked out when they face orlando

The issue is we are in the second half of the season now. The first half is the time to have that philosophy (when you can turn it around). The second half of the season if for gelling your team and making your playoff run.

It would be more of a luxury not a need.  The bench is fine without him and if he plays well is an obvious upgrade.  Look what Boston is doing on the road right now without KG.  They smoked the Suns, crushed the Nuggets...they are fine.  With or without Marbury.

If you aren't a Celtics fan why are you so worried about it?  Me thinks it's because you know it's a no-lose situation for Boston.  Best case scenario they picked up a VERY talented player to bolster their bench for a playoff run.  Middle case scenario is Marbury can't quite get into game shape and doesn't really do much to help one way or the other.  Worst case scenario the guy is a complete dick and he is cut the first week of April, never to be heard from again.

The simple fact of the matter is pretty clear.  Rajon Rondo is the starting point guard on this team.  Eddie House is a fantastic offensive player and has poor ball handling skills.  Marbury could help disfuse that with the second unit.

Tony Allen will be back for the playoffs - so, again, Marbury needs Boston more than Boston needs him.  They are a legit threat to repeat without him.  If Marbury shows up and balls -- it'll be really hard for anyone to beat Boston.

And that, my friend, I believe is the reason why you're being so vocal about it.  You hate the Celtics and you know that it is a win-win for them.

Rajon Rondo...is just one of the many solid first round picks that Phoenix sold off for cash and cap considerations recently that could be helping our team on the court today. Rudy Fernandez, Luol Deng, Nate Robinson and Sergio Rodriguez are a few others.

Dear Robert Sarver...you're a total asshat. On behalf of the entire Suns fan base, please sell the franchise immediately and give your job to whichever member of the Colangelo family will take it.

i don't understand it either .. it's much cheaper for a team to build itself through the draft the way the rookie pay scales work than it is to keep trying to get free agents

I'm really not very vocal at all. All I am doing is pointing out a flip side. You and I have had enough discussions for you to know when I am passionate and this thread is not me being passionate.
