I complained about this years ago and it's happened again. I can't really blame the NFL since it's a huge chunk of money, but I really wish they would open up the NFL Ticket to cable. I would totally pay for the NFL Ticket, no doubt, but it's not enough incentive to switch to DirecTV. It's now extended through 2014.

I think the NFL would make a LOT of money opening their package up to cable.

Pesronally,I admit cable/sattilite t.v. is expensive either way....The NFL sunday ticket is a big reason for my direct Tv,but the no taxes,line fees,franchise fees,Local feees,and local taxes are a close second....If direct T.V tells me it's $10,it's $10..my cable company..they say it's $10....the bill says it's $17...

So many associations (at least down here) make you pay for cable whether you use it or not by including it in your monthly dues.  People who pay for both cabel and directTV seem to be wasting money IMO, and I refuse to be one of them. 

If that means I have to go to the sports bar on Sundays to watch my favorite team, then so be it.  I probably spend less money there than a year of DirectTV and NFL Sunday Ticket would cost, and they give me beer and food.

I actually spend less by purchasing NFL Sunday Ticket than I would if I did not have ST and went to a sports bar every Sunday.  We figured out it was something like $15-20 per week. Being able to DVR and watch them later is priceless!!

I agree that I woudl not pay for DirecTV if I had to pay for cable anyway.  One of the advantages to home ownership, I guess.

The Thursday night games were live streamed via nfl.com and they're experimenting with "HD-quality" streaming of ALL games (live *and* later access) internationally. I think the price for the season was just shy of $250, plus another $50 or so for the playoffs, excluding the SB. So $300 for everything but the SB.

As long as its professionally installed (or done right by yourself), you will never lose your signal. I've had Direct TV for about 8 years- 5 in my old house, 3 in my current house. I installed it myself at my old house (that was back when they charged you a fortune for installation), and never lost my signal. Even the night of the infamous "tuck rule" Patriots- Raiders game, in the midst of a blizzard, I didn't lose my signal. When we moved to our current house, they previous owners had Direct TV, so all we had to do was bring our receivers. I was losing my signal a lot during bad rain storms. Turns out they had installed it themselves and did a piss poor job. When I upgraded to HD, I had Direct TV come out to do the install. All has been fine since then.

I think your bigger worry would be the high winds. I had a neighbor install it himself, and during a high wind storm, his dish got slightly tilted (1degree), and he lost channels.

We do rarely lose our signal, but the dish was installed on the side of our house rather than on the roof.  It happens maybe once or twice a year and never for very long.  It was installed by DirecTV.  I don't know why it is not on the roof.  Maybe it was some neighborhood association rule or something.  I'm sure if we complained about it they would come out and move it for us.  We have always gotten great customer service from them.

If you live in florida, you are inevitably going to lose your signal when the heavy storms come through. But nothing more than 15 minutes.
