since i'm on vacation and not at ESPN, i can't ask pete gammons or timmy K so i need yous guys help before the trade time limit runs out.

some guy in my league wants to trade a-rod and texiera to me for longoria, upton, and nolasco.  i've never heard of nolasco, but i know longoria and upton have scary sick potential.  i know tex will be great, but don't know how a-rod will respond this year.

what do you guys think?  i have a pretty sick team already (hanley & manny are my other 2 big guns)

I'd do it. I would expect A-Rod to miss half the season now thats he's not juicing.

Nolasco just pitched 7 innings of no hit baseball the other day (faced the minimum of 21 batters). Kid stays on track and he has huge upside

Don't pull the trigger on this trade.  A-Rod is facing the beginning of the end of his career.  Like D-B said, he's gonna miss half the season.

Don't do it.  You'll get power out of Longoria and Upton and Nolasco is going to have a sick year.

The answer to your question is..."a little more info is needed to answer your question"

1) Is this an h2h league or roto? If h2h, is there a games start limit per matchup? How many teams? Standard 5x5 scoring? This will help determine the value of the individual positions and scoring cats.

2) How are you sitting currently in steals and starting pitching? Can you afford to lose Upton's steals and Nolasco's innings to upgrade batting avg, HR and RBI?

If you can provide a link to the team, I'll be glad to check it out...

Teixeira, '08:      .301 / 33 / 121 / 3
Rodriguez, 08:   .302 / 35 / 103 / 18

Upton, '08:      .277 / 8 / 67 / 44
Longoria, '08:  .272 / 27 / 85 / 7

In comparison to last year Tony would be leaving 72 RBI and 33 HR on the table while gaining 30 steals.  Upton and Longoria will continue to improve while A Rod is coming back from a hip injury that will limit his baserunning and potential power.  Factor in losing Nolasco in addition...I don't see the gain for 72 / 33 spread out over an entire season and roster.

Maine...you've got it reversed. He's not dealing for Upton...he's giving up Upton.

Also, I'm not buying some of the "half a season for A-Rod" talk. I expect him to miss 20% of the season only.

On a side note regarding A-Rod, you can't really drop the total production from A-Rod's active roster slot for the season in line with the amount of games that Alex is going to miss. A lot of folks mistakenly do that, but that assumes that you are leaving that roster slot blank, rather than inserting another, albeit less talented, backup player while Alex is out (which is another reason for wanting to see his whole roster before providing trade advice).

You're also factoring in Nolasco without knowing what role the SP plays in his league scoring set... In hardcore h2h leagues, Nolasco, while an outstanding young pitcher, doesn't go off the draft board until rd 17-18, because SPs aren't nearly as valuable in h2h as they are in roto.

By my own projections, doing this deal would have the following affect on his squad's offensive numbers:

Steals: -34
HR:  +20
RBI: +21
Runs: +15
Average: +.032

Plus whatever numbers (good or bad) that A-Rod's replacement posts for the first month of the season.

If Nolasco isn't in the mix, and it was just Longoria-Upton for Arod-Tex, I do that deal in a second, and I do it quick, before the other owner realizes what he's giving up. Nolasco is the X factor...what is his value to that team in that league's scoring set?

I know who he is getting / getting.

See...I would have done this trade and given up Longoria and Upton.  And I always finish DEAD LAST in every freakin' league.

So if Maine would do this trade...you shouldn't!

Keep Upton and Longoria and the pitcher.  In the long run they give you better overall balance.  In my humble opinion.

This is why you ALWAYS ask about the scoring set before giving fantasy advice. Points-based systems are totally different than either of the mainstream h2h or roto scoring, and players values can be radically different. This is a very tweaked version of points-based as well, with walks, errors and other fringe stats being counted, so it will change everything. I'll break this trade down by your scoring set tonight, but on the surface, a couple of things pop out...

1) Nolasco most definitely has value in this league, due to the innings limit. He has even more value, imo, because I think he's your best pitcher (with due respect to Gallardo, who I like as well)
2) Teixeira will be more valuable here than in most leagues, due to his low errors, low K's
3) You have a viable CI replacement in Konerko on your pine (sliding Davis to 3B), and Konerko is not only undervalued pretty much everywhere, but for this scoring set...probably even more so.

See...I would have done this trade and given up Longoria and Upton.  And I always finish DEAD LAST in every freakin' league.

So if Maine would do this trade...you shouldn't!

This is not a good enough reason<g>, but all trends are worth noting in this game. Grin

modified to add:  I heart Ianetta too
