When the Lakers get knocked out of the playoffs, I'm bumping this thread.

i'm sorry .. but who's andrew bynum ? .. how has a relative nobody become the focal point for what makes LA win the title ?

seriously ?

if they can't win it without bynum .. they can't win it with him.. any thought to the contrary is just hype

Gotta disagree with ya on this one, Fau... While I totally hate the Lakers, a healthy Andrew Bynum is one of the top-5 centers in the game. Prior to Bynum going down with the injury, the Lakers had really turned the corner on getting Bynum involved as the primary offensive option beside Kobe. In Andrew's last 5 games before getting hurt, his per game averages were:

26.2 pts, 13.8 rebounds, 3.2 blocks, .652 FG%, .825 FT%

Any way you want to slice it, those are dominant numbers.

What scares me the most about the Lakers is that, when Bynum went down, a few other guys started logging increased minutes (mainly Lamar Odom and Trevor Ariza), so now they'll go into the playoffs with their second unit already prepped, battle tested and ready for a long playoff run. It also allows LA to slide Pau Gasol to the 4, which is his most natural position, and a pair of bigs like Bynum-Gasol is a touch matchup for any team out there.

I hate the Lakers...but if forced to drop a dollar on a bet, they'd be my call for NBA champs this season. They have the star to lead (Kobe), they have the size to bang in the halfcourt, and the roster depth to keep everyone fresh.

Yes Bynum does look impressive in the regular season, but will he fold or disappear in the playoffs, especially when it gets a lot tougher?

I'm not worried about Bynum folding in the playoffs. Gasol, on the other hand...

If I were a Lakers fan, I wouldn't be hatchet-counting my yardbirds yet, but I'd probably feel pretty good about my chances of having a chicken dinner.

100% positive about my hatred for the Lakers... I just know enough about the game to recognize what I'm seeing when I look at the Lakers, and that is a championship caliber team.

America's team

I'm sure it will be LeBrick vs. LeGunner Byrant this year.  The NBA loves the fix, this year will be no different.

The Lakers and the Cavs are the two teams that have improved from last year. The Lakers are more solid than they were last year, Bynum or no Bynum. Same for Cleveland.

Boston and Orlando are decent, but they won't make it unless someone upsets LeChoke James.

Denver and Houston are pretenders.

Lakers vs. Cavs in finals, Lakers win in 5, Kobe MVP.
