they're being greedy and thinking that monopolizing 3 nights of prime-time TV will bring them big advertising dollars.

I don't mind the idea. It frees up my Saturday now.

Brian has it square...this is all about prime time ad revenue.

I'm with Phish though...it frees up one Saturday in April, so it's all good.

A Saturday in April at a time when a lot of us are in need of a big football fix.

I guess no draft party at Doc's house this upcoming spring.   Sad

I don't see anything wrong with it. I'm kind of glad they are doing it this way.

Aside from the year I had my hernia operation like two days before hand, its always been too inconvenient to sit and watch the entire thing. (That year I milked my injury and sat in bed all weekend watching the draft)

The draft will still happen and I'm sure will have the same hype around it. It's just a different day.

Did you read the whole article? Only the first round is Thursday night. The second and third rounds are on Friday night, and the rest is on Saturday, so you still get to watch the draft on Saturday.

The past two years I haven't got to watch the draft because I've had other things going on on Saturday afternoon.  Hopefully this will make it easier to watch.

Although, I wonder if the extra break will alter GMs' strategies at all...

(adding to brian's last statement a tiny bit) I think that might have a couple of dowside though....Less tension drama..Right there at the end of the first round that's where people are seeing people fall, now you have to wait another 12 hours to negotiate, people to back out of deals etc,etc... I had no problems with them starting on a friday night (like the first two rounds),then finishing all on Saturday.

I feel like some of the drama is lost, and now we're force to listen to more Mel Kyper B.S.

Yes, I read it...and it still frees up my Saturday. After round 3, I am content to get the updates later...no need to park and watch the TV for the latter rounds.

Exactly why we will see more drama.   After the first round each team will have a chance or reevaluate the draft board and wheel and deal for early second round picks thru trades etc.  Plus teams that have drafted a starter early in round one may now be looking to trade away the player that is being replaced.

I agree with you. I usually just pop it on when I know the Fins are up in the later rounds. My comment was specifically geared towards Tommy's remark about needing the Saturday fix. He can still get, it'll just be the later rounds!

I disagree, you don't get the panic moves that teams normally have, and might kill postition runs........and rarely will they trade a guy, that they just drafted his replacement......Most of those guy's are trade fodder way before the darft....

Interesting.  The only thing that sucks is that it pretty much kills the idea of a draft party.

I'm all for watching some NFL Draft at night.  It beats the Bachelor, or whatever else is on TV on Thursday night.
