Cable should be suspended, Davis should sell the team

I've bitten my tongue about this for the last few days, but now that it's all over the news, I gotta air it out.

What kind of coach punches out one of his assistants because he's having a disagreement with another assistant??  And what kind of owner tries to cover it up rather than do the right thing??

I seriously hope Goodell takes some severe action here.  If players can be suspended for problematical conduct, so should coaches.

If you're going to throw a punch at somebody make sure it's worth losing your job over. 

The League I think can concievably suspend a coach depending on the way their code of conduct is written.  Of Course, I recall Buddy Ryan taking a swing at Jeff Fisher about 15 years ago.  I don't think he got in any trouble despite the fact that it happened on national TV.

Every year I read about fights in training camp, don't ever recall it becoming a league issue.  Different story if it is a fight in a game between players of DIFFERENT teams, but when it is an altercation between members of the same team, that is treated as a team issue. 

If the Raiders want to fire or suspend Cable that is the their business, but this should NOT involve Godell and the league.

He punched Kevin Gilbride, not Jeff Fisher.  And I don't think he got in any trouble with the league, but there was no personal conduct policy back then.   

He was canned by the Houston Oilers that offseason and went on to coach the Arizona Cardinals.

Yes, Steve Smith was suspended for two games last year after he punched Ken Lucas in practice.  Not sure if it was by the league or the team though.

It was by the Panthers, not the league.

Keep in mind that it's one thing to fight during practice when tempers can easily flare in the heat, but once you're in the locker room or meeting rooms, that's a different story.

Immediate termination.  Do you know of any job where it's acceptable for a manager to physically assault one of his workers during a disagreement.  ...not to mention that this is a person in a position of power who will later have to earn the respect of others to do his job properly.

I would fire him today, if I were Al Davis.

If this were a seasoned coach who'd shown success before and this was an isolated incident, I can understand reviewing the situation carefully.  But this early?  Can him.

The league would suspend a player for this behavior.  This is worse (since a coach is a power position).  I think the NFL needs to act and suspend him.

Davis may not even know what happened.  Something tells me he's not up and around much these days.  Whoever is active in running the team should have handled this a lot faster than they did.

Just ran across this on the morning news.  Hanson has turned X-Rays of his broken jaw over to the police and is rumored to have been fired.

Also, the NFL is going to investigate the matter.

The league suspends players for conduct all the time.  This isn't just a scuffle.  This is assault.
