The thing is... it is not just a first round pick in 2011...it's the Oakland Raiders' first round pick in 2011! That sucker is guaranteed to be a top-5 overall selection, because that team isn't getting any better any time soon. That is a young stud mutant beast New England is getting, in exchange for an older player they were going to lose anyway.

To summarize this transaction...

Raiders = idiots
Patriots = brilliant

...and officially filed under the heading of "The rich get richer..."

Would not shock me in the least if by Tuesday morning that pick belongs to someone else.

BB isn't afraid to trade away current talent for future talent, but Pats are in win now mode -- Brady & Moss aren't getting younger.  I don't think he would make this deal if didn't have plans for the cap space saved and the pick to help the team this year.

Hopefully they will be using that pick on on a young QB.......

They might.  Bellichick and Kraft both think highly of Florida QB Tim Tebow.   Kraft and Bellichick were at last years BCS title game as guests of Florida head coach Urban Meyer. They talked during the game about Bellichick really liking Tebows ability as a QB.  This 1st round pick might land New England their QB of the future.  Tebow would be the perfect replacement for Brady in a couple years.

Either way, the Pats made out on this deal. Undecided

Pats can pretty much draft whoever they want in 2010.

Own 2010 1st round pick
Own 2010 2nd round pick
Tenn 2010 2nd round pick
Jax 2010 2nd round pick
own 2011 1st round pick
raiders 2011 1st round pick
own 2011 2nd round pick

They pretty much can trade into any slot they want.

And the Pats are stockpiling first day draft picks like there is no tomorrow.....

Although there might not even BE a draft in 2011 if no CBA is reached.

I really doubt they would cancel the draft, even if no CBA is reached.  Draft is in April.  If there is a lockout it would happen until training camp, if there is a strike it won't happen until the start of the season.

Yeah, this is fucking bullshit.  Not only do we have to try and outdraft the Patriots we have to try and convince dumbass GM's to stop mortgaging their futures to the Patriots.  It's frustrating as shit.  It reminds me of playing Monopoly with Dave growing up.  He would always get me to go for shady deals.
