I know that no one wants to hear this but it is very possible and I don't mean this just because we looked like a JV team on Sunday. We still have Indy on MNF and then San Diego on the road.

History shows that it is almost impossible to make the playoffs if you lose the first 3 games. Since the playoffs were expanded to 12 teams in 1990, 211 teams have began their season 0-3 and only 3 of the 211 teams made the playoffs.  So, my question is this ... if we lose the first three games do they bring in Henne or does Sparano keep playing Penny to win a game first?

Edited to note that means we would only have a 1.4 % chance of making the playoffs.

I would keep Pennington in there if they start off 0-3.  Once the season is hopelessly lost, then I put Henne in.  0-3 is tough to overcome but not impossible.

On a side note, when Defense was up here, we hung out at the Ale House one night and met this dude who had met Bill Parcells several times.  He told us that coaching runs in Parcells blood and if the Dolphins start off bad this year, don't be surprised to see Sparano pushed aside and Parcells taking over the coaching reins.  If the Dolphins do start 0-3, let's see if this guy's theory is correct.

Disclaimer:  This does not mean that I am calling for Sparano's head.

You don't change QBs after three games unless Pennington is just horrible.

I don't see Parcells stepping into the coaching reigns ever again.

Barring injury, I doubt we would see a QB change until fairly late in the season.  And that would only be if the record was 2-10 or something.  I think that Sparano will be the coach for the remainder of the year, no matter what the record is.  I think that Sparano is a good coach and I think Parcells knows that.

Shouldn't any thread that is prepositioned on the team's season being over in September belong in the anti-fins section?

That dude was Nuts.  Tongue

We might go 0-3 , I don't know. But I like what I've seen of Sprano. No WAY he doesn't get results out of this bunch.

I am of the belief that unless it's down the stretch and you're several games out, that you put the player in the game that gives you the best chance of winning TODAY.  If the coaches think that's Henne, then fine, but I don't want to see Henne play for what he might do tomorrow.

My point is if we lose our first three games we are pretty much out of it. Maybe not mathmatically becasue it's actually really easy in the NFL to go on an 11-2 run Roll Eyes but I would not count on anything if my chances were only 1.5 % of it happening.  Secondly it's not "if" Henne takes over for Penne it is "when" as was mentioned in this months Dolphin Digest. So ... if we are out of it, and most rationale people would say a 1.5% chance is out of it, why wait to see how well Penne does when it really doesn't matter anyway.

Postponing Henne's development for the sake of winning the championsghip is one thing but to do it just because is entirely another issue. As in the case of Aaron Rodgers, no amount of sitting behind a good QB makes you a a good QB. It takes game situations and mistakes to grow from for most people.

Maaaaaan, I thought this would be a fill in the blank thread, and I propose we make it one.  As in:

"If we lose our first three games, I ____________________________."

I'll go first:

If we lose our first three games, I will avoid the site for a good three days so I won't have to get into fights with the "FIRE SPARANO" crowd that will surely start ranting.

I will avoid the site to avoid not only the "fire Sparano" crowd, but the "we want Henne now" crowd and the "Ted Ginn sucks crowd"  and oh wait... to late...

Let's blame the offense when it's the defensive backfield that can't stop anyone.
