Does the NFL really re-seed after upsets? If the #1 and #2 both lose in the second round, after first round byes, doesn't then the best available seed get home-field advantage?
Well, in college basketball, for example, if the 16 seeds upsets the 1 seed, the 16 seed takes over the #1 path, which is the supposedly the easiest path from then on.
In football, if the 8 seed beats the 1 seed, in the next round, they re-seed and the 2 seed (assuming they won) takes the easiest path.
I guess your gripe is more with the uncertainty about who you would play depending upon who wins what game?
Yeah, kinda, although I also think it's cool to be able to knock off the top dog and take their place....and it's neat to be able to make brackets.
