You can blame the receivers every time, but, statistically, you're going to get a lot more incomplete passes if the balls are more difficult to catch.

Ginn had one hit him in the numbers on a 27 yard curl at mid field with no one around him.  He dropped two, in the end zone, that went through his hands.  GOD could have thrown those passes and Ginn would have dropped them.

I know the popular thing is to lob all fault on the QB's shoulders.  Ain't accurate though.

^ The one By Fasano, then two plays later Ginn Alligator armed one...then the final one that was dropped....The first one by Ginn and Fasano would have been 1 TD,and then the dropped pass by Ginn...The Missed field Goal by Carpenter....(Sorry Got on a roll there)

The Final 3 or 4 throws...Chad,ran forward like 6 yards to make those throws...The problem, I see with Chad's lack of Arm strength,is There isn't any fear in playing 8-9 man fronts...Deep Balls/Big pass plays are going to come from play action,or broken /missed tackles.....(When the ball is in the air,the DB has time to recover, the damn timing throw)

Oops Didn't see Maines post explaining the 2 TD's)

Not sure where you get the second score from, but the problem with Pennington is that his lack of arm strength makes what should have been an easy catch into a pretty difficult one. You can blame the receivers every time, but, statistically, you're going to get a lot more incomplete passes if the balls are more difficult to catch.

Hold on.  So if the ball is more difficult to catch, you will have more incompletions?  Wow that is insightful.  You should write that down in a book.
So since Pennington has one of the highest completion rates for qbs, it would mean his passes are not have to catch?  Did i get that right?  Statistically speaking of course.

Agreed...though it isn't "one of the highest" completion percentages...he is the highest. #1 all-time for career completion percentage.

That said, I think a lot of that statistical success lies in how short the majority of his pass plays have been. The shorter they are, the easier they are to complete...no major epiphany there. Fran Tarkenton also had a severely padded completion percentage for the same reason. Long passes thrown by "weak-armed" arms tend to wobble and be difficult to catch. Long passes thrown by strong-armed QBs tend to hold their spiral, give the receiver an easier ball to handle and arrive quicker, giving the defensive backs less time to recover.

Not *hard* to catch. Helps if you read through your text before pressing "post"...

Yeah, Pennington's throws are not hard to catch - on average - because they're all SHORT THROWS. Pennington is a good quarterback, let me just say that right here, but he was HUGELY overrated in New York when he was considered a great quarterback. A large part of that rep came by way of his short-throw-inflated completion percentage.

The one single thing that makes Pennington a good NFL quarterback is that he knows his limits and will, with few exceptions (playoff game vs Baltimore), play within them. That means he'll very rarely try to hit a man deep, unless he is EXCEPTIONALLY open; he knows how much hang time his throws have and is a good judge of how far away the safety is.

(That's not the only thing he does well, of course, he also reads defenses well, which - I suspect - is the #1 reason Henne hasn't gotten a shot yet).

this team didn't lose the game monday night because of offense. they lost because the safeties can't cover anyone in the middle of the field, and were unable to generate any pressure on the qb (either off the edge or up the middle). the defense blew it...

My problem with the game was at the end of both halves.

At the end of the 1st half with 2:15 or so on the clock, and the phins on the 50 yd line....they played for a damn field goal.  I know they were running the ball down their throats, but go for 7 and settle for 3.  Don't just settle for 3.

At the end of the game, maybe they were running a 2 minute drill that Sporano was happy with...but from what I was watching there was no urgency by anyone to get as many plays off in the limited amount of time.

It was a tough loss to take.  Now they travel to the west coast on a short week.  Go Phins!
