Ouch...I know where you're coming from (kind of) with the Devil's Advocate thing - I do it a lot myself, as I can almost always put myself on both sides of any situation and argue for either.
But in this one - I see only unconfined joy. If Matt knows anything about what just happened to/with him - he's happy that people were generous enough to go out of their way to make his day special, and he saw that they had an absolute blast doing it. If he doesn't know much about it, he thinks he just won his team the Superbowl - nothing wrong with that either.
I feel like I'd guess at least 90% of viewers/readers feel about this - a little lump in the throat, a great big thump in my heart - News just in, people are NICE! Life is not just about winning, and sport doesn't mean money, cheating, bad-mouthing, stomping on the loser yadda yadda - life is about people, and deep down? Most of us are good people - we want to do good things and make life good for other people too, especially the 'less fortunate'.
