Why?  Looks like Pat white will not be getting any real snaps this year.

Erm, I could see a veteran backup with starting experience to come in at #2 Thigpen is an interesting call, I was rooting for him to get the start in KC, he didn't seem all that bad, but you have to wonder why we essentially have three rookie QB's on the roster now...

thigpen played in 14 games last year starting 11. he's not a rook, and did some good things with kc last year. hopefully they didn't give up too much for him, but i like the move better than jeff garcia or some other over 40 unemployed qb.

I like it.  We need more than White as a back-up and Thigpen has a lot of upside.  He is NOT A ROOKIE.  He has several starts and played well.

I know it is early, but I am smelling bust over near White's locker.  Dolphins had to do something, what else would have been better?

This is a logical move.  Thigpen has had some starting experience and made the most of it, as evidenced by him torching Miami's secondary in that Arrowhead Stadium matchup played in 8 degree weather at the end of last season.

Will Pat White still be listed as #2 so he can operate the Wildcat?  We don't know.

I just hope that the Dolphins simply had to give back the pick they acquired from KC for two backup guards.

You know, I like this move.

Thigpen can throw the ball down the field. he gave the Dolphins headaches in Kansas City last year but if you go back to that game, half of KC's o-line (which wasn't good to start off with) was hurt. KC's defense wasn't that good at all and Larry Johnson didn't do much.

He's a little bit reckless when he takes off running. I was pulling for him over Cassel but as always, a new coach wants his guys.

I really like this move.

Unless they got him for a 7th round pick or you think Thigpen is the future of the franchise, this is a dumb move.

Lets face facts, the Dolphins are not going to the playoffs with Thigpen this year nor Henne nor White.  Maybe if they trade for Peyton, Brees or Brady they could salvage the season...maybe.  So the Dolphin gave up the future (a pick) for a stop gap back up QB.  Whats the point in that?  Having Thigpen as the #2 instead of White means what if Henne goes down?  A 4-12 season instead of a 3-13?  You don't trade away picks for a stop gap when you are 0-3.  If you are 3-0 or 2-1 you trade away a future pick to fill an injury hole, you don't do it when you are 0-3.

And what did they buy?  I will tell you what they bought --- a fucking QB controversy by week 7.  When the team is 0-6 or 1-5 and Henne is looking like a rookie folks are going to be demanding that Thigpen be given a chance.  Why the hell do the Dolphins need that.  Tell Henne you have 100% confidence in him by NOT bringing in a vet QB and let him start 13 games.  Either by the end of the season you will know you have your franchise QB or you will have a top 5 pick to draft one.

This isn't about Henne. This is all about White. He's not a quarterback at this level. Period. He might, pie-in-the-sky, be one at some distant point in the future, but to say he is a "project" at quarterback would be understating it.

The bottom line is, you can't play without a backup quarterback. You need SOMEONE in case your #1 gets hurt - regardless of whether that #1 is Chad Pennington, Chad Henne or your Tom Brady.

Are you saying that the Patriots aren't showing faith in Brady by having a backup? Because, seriously, if the Dolphins just stuck with White, they wouldn't have a backup. White is a total mess. I'd much rather have Ronnie in as single wing full-time over White right now.

Not for nothing, but Thigpen is only 25 and held his own with Kansas City last year. KC being a truly godawful team and not supporting him with anything of worth.

This move was about Pat White anyway. White was to be used this year MAYBE in 2 plays a game as a Wildcat option, he isn't the true backup QB. Miami needed one and they got a guy who is probably going to be one of the best backups in the league.

Very good move by Miami. Not everything has to be flashy.
