anyone watching hockey? I am just loving the fact (Sarcasm) that my favorite team four weeks into the season has a record of 0-6-1, easily the worst start in 92 years. and to make matters worse. GM Burke trading two first round picks in next years and the year after that draft. plus a second round pick in 2011 to get Phil Kessel (who is injured btw) and that first rounder just could end up being #1 overall.

Got to love the dysfunctional leafs management. I hope the bruins enjoy that #1 pick. You know who to thank for that one.

This is why a lot of hockey fans outside of Toronto refer to them as the Maple Laughs.

The Panthers seem to have taken a step backwards.  From last season being in the thick of the playoff race, they're now at the bottom and could challenge the Toronto Make Believes for the #1 pick.  Wish I knew what was going on in their thick skull when they got rid of Craig Anderson...

Don't blame me, I voted for Kodos.

Panthers just need to fix their biggest problem, DEFENSE. they don't play defense. Giving up a short handed goal while being surrounded by 3 of your own players is not bad, its an embarrassment. (Reference to the FLA-PIT game)

Red-wings are having a rough season  Grin (can't help but smile)

Really happy with the Av's and I really hope Anderson does take the Avs to the finals this year. That will show the Panthers that they really need to look at the players they keep giving away Roll Eyes. (Just frustrated with that). To be honest, I did like the pick-up of Clemenson but I to this day do not like Vokun. He just does not convince me that he is an upper-level goalie who is able to handle this.

Just some of my random thoughts.

Lot of speculation that Panthers are going to pack up next off season and move to a colder climate. It's pretty sad. I have lots of good memories in the 90's from the Miami Arena and are playoff run (year of the rat).

Don't look now, but there is another Phoenix Coyotes situation on the National Hockey League horizon. The Florida Panthers were supposed to be sold this summer, but quietly no deal was ever agreed to with the difficult owner Alan Cohen, and those who know the situation best wonder what comes next. The current owners clearly want out. They didn't even bother to replace Jacques Martin as general manager this summer. They are operating on a shoestring budget and rumblings are the owners may consider abandoning ship if need be. This isn't the kind of news the NHL wants to hear as another season is about to begin, especially considering what this summer in bankruptcy court has been like for the league. Make no mistake, the trouble is there, even if commissioner Gary Bettman won't readily admit it.

 Roll Eyes Roll Eyes

I don't totally buy it.

I think why this was written was because the Panthers are having the worst start to a season in most recent years (actually I think ever). Besides there is NO secret deal about selling teams in the NHL no matter how badly everyone in the North wants hockey to be taken away. The Phoenix situation was not under the table, there are no secret owner meetings that don't get leaked to the press and they are still (last I heard) dealing with the team ownership. Funny I mention that because the people who vacation FROM the north are the same people who want to jump to ice rinks down here and none of that would have happened without the Panthers. What I do not understand is that if they were on said shoestring budget, why did they buy new video boards for the arena when they know it is an accessory? I do know they did cut a lot of their production staff. The tv and radio people are on shoestring situations where only 1 person is calling games via radio and 2 are calling via TV. Are they financially bad? Yes. Are they worse than Phoenix? NO!!!

Despite a terrible start to the season, they are still out drawing the people in Phoenix which has they same majority of their attendance as the opposing team fans (which I do have to say that every time the Rangers come down here, it is either a sell-out or close to it). Don't know why they would get rid of that  Roll Eyes. Also, the Panthers re-shifted the cost of the tickets so the upper levels are less expensive than the lower levels to bring more people into the game. Of course, since we are still dealing with the financial recession, tickets like that are not commonly bought as much as before.  Since the Toronto Sun said it, I would not blow it off, but I am not totally believing it. If THN (The Hockey News) said it or someone in the system I trust said it, then I would believe it.

Its easy for everyone up north to complain that hockey should not be a south sport. With the exception of the University of Alabama-Huntsville (which recently made a playoff run) there are no NCAA college hockey teams. Having said that, there are many universities who are participating in hockey leagues that are not NCAA sanctioned. Big name universities too like University of Miami, University of Florida, Georgia Tech university and more. Saying there is no following of hockey in the south is about as bad a blanket statement as there are no good guys anymore (when in truth there are many good guys who get totally offended by that statement). It may sound right at first but if you stop to think, you would realize that statements like that are not entirely true. Also for those of you who don't know that there is college hockey in the first place, there are many pre-season tournaments for the NCAA season which starts (you guessed it) in FLORIDA.  Shocked Wow, that's a shock  Roll Eyes.

Overall, even if the team in the future gets taken away, the impact that it has had is gone too far to be reversed. There are many players who are growing up on the "farm" system from Florida and in a few years may even be started to be drafted (some of them have went to the NCAA colleges because it is more likely that NHL scouts will see them play there than here).

Personally, I think they stay. Heck, they are still pulling more people than the Marlins fans (sorry Brian  Sad ).

Why shouldn't there be hockey in the south?? Ugh. It's not like there IS natural ice up in MA or something in the early Fall, when hockey season starts! Besides the fact that all the major teams (like except for maybe some kids having fun, and lake skating's dangerous anyway) play indoors, what's the problem?

If they do leave, they should not take the Panther name. It's too Floridian!
