This was an argument going around the office around lunchtime....One of the women that work in the office got in an accident this morning. She dropped off her kids at school, was heading to work.she got the green arrow in the turn lane,no one coming, made her turn,a new car in crossing turn lane that had the red light, failed to stop fast enough.Clipped her spun her mini van (her tank as she referred to it),some damage to the rear quarter panel, fifth door is hard to open and close, and the bumper plastic is shredded. She's fine....The guy was in a brand new 2009 Toyota, still had the sticker in the window.

So we started arguing about who the worse drivers were in the office....(Shockingly I was 5th,driving like a Drivers's ed teacher, scared the hell out of most of the people.(I also avoid all the major intersections, because of red light cameras)) The Number one worse driver is one of th owners,He has a 2008 Mercedes, has bunch of tickets, had a few accidents in the past few years...Last week 5 of us had to make a run to K.C.,one of the guys that was on that trip brought up the Lexus (Rover like thing) that was driving 90 in the pouring rain, and the accident in the parking lot of the  courthouse, where two BMW? Mercedes? Lexus cars hit hit damn near head on and blocked the exit.......

My investigator boss made the point...Well sure...You really think that guy driving 1990 Corolla,85 Chevy pick up,1999 Lumina has all the bells and whistles,to distract him? The car might have a CD player, they probably have a cell phone...His vehicle may not be in top notch shape,if you have bad brakes are you really gonna be flooring it for Light to light? That guy driving the new Lexus,Mercedes, probably has a Nav system,Bells going off,and feels pretty comfortable that he's safe, not concentrating on his driving.....

I live in a medium size city....I find it hard to say here...I'd say 35 -45% of the vehicles on the road here are trucks...I don't think the price of the car,has too much to do with it. Bad drivers drive just about anything....I do understand what they're saying....

So what do you say? how do you see it?

That is not true in South Florida.  In fact, it's probably the opposite.  We have a large Haitian population down here that, by and large, and receiving proper driver training and drive very slowly in the fast lane on the Interstate, as well as change lanes without signaling.  The car is usually a late model Sedan -- an early to mid 90s Toyota Corolla, often.

We have old people down here, but they aren't bad drivers, so much as slow drivers.  They usually don't drive in the evenings, though, and they don't use the Interstate.  They are in large, boat-like cars.

The most dangerous drivers on the road are
1. 16-23... Due to inexperience, immaturity, and rarely do these kids have a nice car due to finances.
2. 70+... Due to health issues, failing sight, reflexes, and being scared. Now this group does have the ability to afford nicer cars, but the problem of "bells and whistles" does not really affect this group.
I personally worry about someone in a beat to crap car, as there is a better than average chance they do not have good brakes, insurance, etc. Most people I know with really nice cars do not take chances.

Once my car got old, I didn't give a shit who I hit. Now I have a new car again, I pay more attention to my car.

I think the statement in the topic is a saying propagated by people with crappy/boring cars who are jealous of others' nicer cars.

I've been a very good driver (0 speeding tickets, 1 moving violation in the 13 years I've been driving) when I had a total bucket ('84 Tercel) and when I drove a nice car ('95 300GT VR4).

People who live around me and drive BMW's drive like they own the road and the rules do not apply to them.

I don't think it matters.  I see the same idiots putting on make up at 50mph in a Ford POS as I do a Land Rover.

I was almost hit while running by a dumb bitch putting on eyeliner. She ran a stop sign. Who the hell does that? Eyeliner? She looked so shocked to have me hit the hood of her car. That's how close she was to hitting me. Dumbass.

Yes...I'm still rageful about this one, and she was in a Mercedes as are most people in my snobby yuppified neighborhood. I need to move. I should've left with the gays.

Speaking for myself, a nice little test drive in a fancy sports car would show you all just what type of driver I am.
