Do you really want players to take violent action against the refs?  Not only is it assault, which would (and should) get you thrown in jail, but it would also be extremely ineffective, as refs would be hesitant to throw flags when they should.

I'm DEAD serious.  Refs need to learn that bogus calls cannot and will not be tolerated in sports.  Already in the past two weeks, I've seen enough of them to last a lifetime, at the college level and pro level. 

Refs are corruptable and can be bought.  Former NBA ref Tim Doneghy already proved that.  The question is, for every Tim Doneghy, how many other refs are calling games based on bribes or personal vendettas against certain players/teams. 

I applaud what this player did, and if I were him, I would then hold a press conference imploring other players to do the same thing.  If the refs start to fear that making a bogus call could result in grevious bodily harm, they won't do it.

You act as if it's an easy job to be a referee.  I am sure that you would never, ever blow or miss a call if you were one.

Nothing in this story has anything to do with the ref being paid to make phantom calls, or states otherwise that he was blatantly making bad calls.

It's a ridiculous idea.  Punching ANYBODY in the face for making a mistake in their job is inexcusable.  Otherwise, I would have left Shire all blooded and bruised after my first weeks.  (It took me a while, but I eventually became an effective employee for them)

Anyway, about the officiating on Sunday:

There was not a single call in that game that was flat-wrong.  The Bess fumble, and the catch by the receiver at the goal line were correct calls.  The one call that looked bad was the Sharper return, but even that was close enough so that it was not blatantly wrong.

The Dolphins lost because they sucked in the second half.

BTW, Tommy, when you played in high school, did you ever punch a ref in the face?  If so, what happened afterwards?

No, I did not.  Then again, I was never the victim of a bad call.  I've berated officials before but nothing ever came of it.

An occasional one here and there, maybe, but seven in one game??  Give me a break. 

Another example was back in the early part of this decade when the Miami Heat were playing really bad (pre Dwayne Wade era).  Riley was complaining that the Heat were often victims of bad calls.  One time, an official walked up to Pat Riley and said, "It brings me absolute delight to watch you and your team die."

Punching an official should not be considered a crime.  If players punch each other on the field and nobody ever gets charged with a crime, why should punching an official be any different. 

And yes, if the players feel they are not having a fair chance to win the game, they should make it their duty to keep the game fair.
