Tebow Escorts Date At Award Show
20-Year-Old Woman Had Brain Tumor Removed Last Year

POSTED: Friday, December 11, 2009
UPDATED: 2:42 pm EST December 11, 2009

ORLANDO, Fla. -- Florida Gators quarterback Tim Tebow has walked a lot of red carpets the past four years.

But Thursday night, for the first time, he did so with a date on his arm.

Tebow escorted 20-year-old Kelly Faughnan, of Virginia, at The Home Depot ESPN College Football Awards Show in Orlando, WJXT-TV reported.

Faughnan had a brain tumor removed last year, and she asked to go to the awards show to see Tebow because she's a big fan.

An ESPN producer set up a meeting between the two, and Tebow asked if she wanted to walk the red carpet with him.

I don't love him or hate him as a football player.  However, I think it's sad that this guy gets trashed (not in this article but by football fans) for being a decent human being.  I guess if he drank and partied and slept around he would have more "cred" in the eyes of some.

I honestly think that Tebow is gay.  He uses this kind of a stuff as a reason not to bring a "legitimate" date.

I am happy for him, though, and glad that he's using the opportunity to make a good night for someone else.  Cynics say that he's only doing it for the publicity, but even if he is, so what?

Being gay doesn't exactly mesh with the whole Soldier of Christ thing.  It's my understanding that that kind of stuff is "frowned upon" in the Christian community.

You keep saying this and I know you are being sincere so I have to ask ... do you have a special gaydar or something? I mean have you nailed other guys who haven't come out?  I really don't see him as being gay but then again I know 20 something virgins too. I believe the truth will come out sooner or later if he is. If he isn't gay no amount of happy marriage and kids will convince the skeptics.

I agree with CF, Dave.  He's holding to his Christian values as best as he can, and it's very difficult for anyone to do that in this spotlight, seeing as he's got women wanting him everywhere he goes.

I don't have special gaydar, and I've only really "spotted" the gay kids from high school that I knew to be obvious (but before they did).  But I find that Tebow's private life is very inconsistent.  He seems to be very open in cases like this where he's doing some kind of charity or evangelizing, but very closed off and awkward when he's asked about girlfriends or sex or anything like that, leading me to believe that there's something there.

If you're a college senior that plays QB for the Gators, and you're as good looking as Tebow, there's a reason that the only girl you're seen with in your whole 4 years is a charity case with a brain tumor, and "God" ain't the reason.  Not having sex is one thing -- fine -- I can buy that.  Being completely devoid of any relationships with women is another.

(I'm also not saying this as a shot on Tebow.  I think it would be refreshing to have an "out" gay athlete.  It would also help reconcile some of Tebow's weird behavior, in my eyes.)

Tebow's not gay, he's just sickly sweet.

Nothing wrong with my gaydar...I can spot a swisher at 100 sashays.

I don't think he is gay, either.  I think he is just trying to stick to his Christian principles.

Where is the Christian principle that says you can't show any interest in women through college?

1. Uphold your Christian principles.
2. Avoid getting married while you're really young (and still trying to finish college).
3. Have sex.

Pick any two.

If he's smart enough not to get married in his early 20s, and he wants to uphold his Christian principles, then he's pretty much doing the only thing he can.  The last thing that a superstar QB that's attempting to "keep himself pure" should do is hang around hot college girls.

I don't care for the description of Tebow's good behavior as "Christian principles." I imagine that most rabbis, imams, and secular guidance counselors would endorse being nice to the sick girl.

If he were Jewish or Muslim, I would say "Jewish principles" or "Muslim principles".

I was referring to his chastity.
