Okay, realistically, the season is over. It was good while it lasted.

I'd like to see what Turner has these last two games and maybe J.D. Folsom at MLB. Can we find another Zach Thomas?

Even though Henne cost us the game with picks, he did rack up a lot of yardage. It's been a long time since we had a consistent 300+ yard game threat at QB. In fact, gotta say the last one was Marino. Even though his pick total has increased as the weeks have gone by, I think he has improved. Imagine how good he would be if he didn't have Ted Ginn leading the NFL in drop percentage? Once that piece of garbage is cut in the offseason, he should be even better.

I also think Vontae Davis has improved dramatically and is now an asset at corner. Our schedule this year was murder, if we can get a legitimate WR. Not even a #1, just another legitimate WR, combined with an easy schedule, I think we can win the division next year depending on what the Pats do.

A quick glance at 2010 free agents show Miles Austin and Brandon Marshall are UFA. Of course, if you hate drops, don't sign Brandon Marshall. Shit, even TO is available. We need a WR more than anything on this team. Bess is not a #1, but he is a hell of a #2.

Ted Ginn rarely sees the field and it's been that way for most of the season, so he's hardly impacting Henne's stats much.

Earlier in the year Ginn played more often, and his "impact" was felt greater then. Can't forget the Colts game and the dropped pass.

Can we cut him without salary cap implications?

It's unclear what the salary cap implications would be next year, considering it's an uncapped year... maybe... unless a new CBA gets done. (And even then, I'm not convinced they can make it capped since it's a core part of quite a lot of big contracts).


EDIT: Looking it up, Ginn's salary for 2010 is actually somewhat reasonable at $1 million (shocking, but unless you're talking rookie, $1M doesn't buy you much in the NFL). Was he worth the huge signing bonus? Clearly not, but that's water under the bridge.

taking the ignorant view that ginn cost us the colts game (which he didnt) He more than made up for it in the jets game.  cutting him now would be retarded.

Yes, Ginn won us the Jets game.....and nothing else. For $1 Million, I guess we can keep him on as a kick returner, but he isn't worth a roster spot as a WR.

I'd hate to say this, but I think Turner will be cut loose at the end of the season as well.  He still has not seen the field and the staff is very skeptical about him.  He might do better with the Jets, having his college QB throw to him.

Not being able to crack the field with our receiving corps is pretty bad.

2010 is a stacked year for WR Free Agency. I don't know our cap situation, but we have to do everything we can to land a big wide receiver for Henne. Hartline and Camarillo are good, though they can't be #2 options. Bess is a #2 forced to playing like a #1 and it just doesn't work like that.

Sign a guy like Vincent Jackson or maybe even TO for just a season and they can be pretty good.

God I hope Turner is being groomed and not going to be cut.  It's time for him to show up soon though.

He got a $2.5 million contract with just over a million paid out already in salary and signing bonus. His salary for next year: $395,000. Peanuts. If he has any sort of potential, he'll be kept around. If they are thinking about cutting him, I hope they give him a chance in the final games. Sometimes players step up in game situations and there seems very little risk at this point.

You can't have it both ways. Marshall and Jackson only become free agents if a new deal is reached. Otherwise, any player with less than SIX (6) years of accrued NFL experience whose contract expires at the end of this season becomes a RESTRICTED FREE AGENT. Marshall has 4, Jackson 5.
