Well it has finally happened.  My wife has been struggling to keep her job for the last couple of years and they let her go a few days ago. She was contracted so she has no benefits including unemployment.  That means we just immediaely lost 60 percent of our income. We can not even come close to paying our bills and our reserves have been eliminated from the last couple of years of a struggling economy. There is no longer a "Peter" to rob so that we can pay "Paul".

"Gloom, despair and agony on me-e!
Deep dark depression, excessive misery-y!
If it weren't for bad luck I'd have no luck at all!
Gloom, despair and agony on me-e-e!"

Just kidding.  I'm not depressed. I feel confident something will happen!!  Anyone got a box for rent? ;-)

That is too bad CF. I didn't really expect this type of post and was hoping to read something more entertaining. Keep your chin up.

If there is anything I can do to help, CF, just let me know. I have supreme "resume enhancer" skills and would be glad to volunteer a little time.

Sorry to hear CF.  Times are tough and they suck for everyone.  She'll find something, no doubt.

You're a very good man and I am sure your wife is equally as awesome.  Good things have a way of happening to good people.

^She worked for the city they live in, if I remember correctly.  She was pretty "up there" in her job title.

Unfortunately too many of us are beconig just a number on a report. Yesterday at my mandatory class for unemployment they said that the real number of people unemployed when everyone is taken into account is over 18%.

I'm not sure how it works in Florida, but (in socialist California) I'm technically a contractor, yet I'll get unemployment if I get laid off.  They still take unemployment insurance out of my paychecks, so...

Yeah, I remember talking about employment in statistics class.  The unemployment number has to do with people who are unemployed but still part of the workforce, or something like that.  Once you go a certain period of time and remain unemployed, or exit the workforce (retired, don't want to work) you no longer count towards the statistic.

Sorry to hear, CF.  As for your wife, if she paid into the Florida UC fund somehow, she could make an unemployment claim.  Technically, if she fell more into the line of employee than contractor, she could make a claim to Florida and have Florida re-categorize her as an employee (I have never done this or helped someone do this, but employers abuse employees by making them "contractors" all the time and I know there are avenues).
