Agree with Philly - the 12-man penalty was the killer.  What's worse is that Favre tried to call timeout to avoid the penalty - after coming out of a timeout. This would have been a delay of game penalty for calling 2 timeouts in a row, and they only had one timeout left which should have been saved to bring Longwell on at the end to try the winning FG.

That whole 3rd and 10 was a fiasco.  They should have run the ball up the middle, let the clock tick down to 3 seconds, called the timeout, and then kicked the potential game winner.  I wonder which of those 12 men wasn't supposed to be out there....

^^^ Maybe if Brett had signed with Denver, they might have made the playoffs...

I doubt it..... Wink

Unless any of you can answer the following question "yes," then this thread (and all dogging of Favre today) is patently goofy. The question is...

"Would Tarvaris Jackson have taken Minnesota any further than Brett Favre did this season?"

Exactly...the correct answer is:

"Tarvaris Jackson wouldn't have even gotten Minnesota TO the playoffs.

Stroke, while I agree the Vikings definitely went further than they would have otherwise I have to disagree that they would not have made the playoffs without Favre. They were their division favorite even with Jackson. There are some stars on that team and while they would have lost something I bet they still would be in the playoffs.

That said, Geaux Saints. I am a Manning fan, but I would like to see something positive happen for the Saints.

Well, while I hate to be a b*tch here, I guess I'm gonna have to be.  Cheesy I mean, Minnesota DID make the playoffs just this past season with Tarvaris at the helm.  They did get knocked out in the first round at home against a good Philly team, and I do agree with Phish that they likely went further with Brett than they could've with Tarvaris (or Sage for that matter), but the fact still remains that just the season before they did win some games with Tarvaris...or maybe it was usually in spite of him.   Cheesy

I'm of the opinion that they would've won the division again with Jackson at QB, but they probably wouldn't have gotten a bye and either lost in the first round again or won that game but gotten beaten by the 1 or 2 seed in the next round.  Pure speculation, obviously, but hey!  It's a free country, isn't it?  Grin

As an *aside*, I do agree with others talking about how Farve's toughness impressed them the other day.  I always knew the guy was a tough SOB, but he still managed to impress me Sunday night.  The INT definitely hurt, but the penalty hurt more because even with Longwell's leg, I think it put them at a point on the field where they couldn't just run another one into the line and expect Longwell to just bang it home, even in the 'Dome.
