I apologize if there are any other threads about this. I took a look, and didn't see any. If there are, please feel free to merge them.

We always talk about what a joke the Pro-Bowl is in general, but moving it to the week before the Super Bowl makes it even more of a joke. Not only do you completely eliminate the Super Bowl team players from the game, but also the losers of the Divisional Championship games.

We all knew this though. So why am I ranting about it now?

Guess who the AFC QB's will be? Matt Schaub will be starting. Vince Young will be his back up. And the third QB?? David Garrard. David fricking Garrard. 15 TD's and 10 INT's are Pro-Bowl worthy numbers?

What a joke.

We have brought up this topic before and I agree. I doubt this will be a long standing tradition.

What a joke.

Well when you say it like that!!!

I agree that it loses some of the little bit of luster it has when you elimnate the top talent.  I wish they would make it mean something too.

I can't understand it.  The AFC QB situation should send a message to the league.  Really?  David Garrard?  They couldn't throw Henne a bone to give the home-town fans something to cheer for?

I still like it.  Having it way after the Super Bowl means that it doesn't matter who plays in it, because nobody watches.  I think you're better off to get people to watch during football season, rather that have the best of the best players, without viewership.

We just have to agree to disagree because my unnoffical personal poll still has no one I have asked interested in the game this year either.

I think you're right, that there will be little genuine interest regardless.  But I think the chances of people just catching it on TV, because football is still on the brain, will be higher.

But to say its the "Pro-Bowl" and the "best players" is a farce when you have the 9th or 10th best QB in the AFC on the roster. I mean come on. 15 TD's and 10 INT's are not Pro-Bowl numbers!

Change the name of it and call it the "Fantasy Roster Game" and it may have more appeal.

When "people" use pro-bowls as a way to measure how awesome a player is, this becomes important.  To say that David Garrard is a pro-bowl makes all other true pro-bowl QB's look like bums.  Apparently half of the AFC's QB's are pro-bowl QB's this season.

Fine, but I don't concede that you have the 9th or 10th best QB because of when the contest is held.  It's because the people who make it elect not to go.

You are removing 2 QB possibilities from the AFC (Manning, Sanchez), but you still have a lot of great players to choose from (Rivers, Roethlisberger, Palmer, Young, Brady)  It's not like there's a shortage of talent, so long as people who get chosen actually play in the game.

I like how the Pro-Bowl is being played the week before the Superbowl...I might actually watch it.  I do agree that it is a joke to have Young and Garrard as "Pro-Bowlers".  This may have some implications down the line when boarder-line hall of famers are making the ballet for the HOF.

"Well (person A) had (this many) Pro-Bowl appearances, so they should be in the hall of fame."

"Yeah, but David Garrard got into the Pro-Bowl, so is that really a measuring stick for greatness?"

...and so on.

MODIFIED TO ADD:  Just found out that with all the new people added to the Pro Bowl roster, a Miami Dolphin made it.  Yeremiah Bell.

I just heard this and now I'm excited to go!!!  I get to cheer for someone.  I think Bell and Polite were probably the only Dolphins that deserved a look.

I thought they already decided to have it back in Hawaii next year.

^^^ Maybe so. My lack of interest wouldn't make me the most reliable source.

I agree with Philly. I'd also like to add that they should do what Dave said in his other thread a while back. You don't go to the Pro Bowl, then it shouldn't be added to a players resume'.
