APNewsBreak: Ochocinco wants to kick in Pro Bowl
AP

By JOE KAY, AP Sports Writer Joe Kay, Ap Sports Writer – 34 mins ago

CINCINNATI – Chad Ochocinco wants to show a Pro Bowl audience that he can kick it as well as catch it.

The Bengals receiver did some kickoffs Thursday during practice for the Pro Bowl in Miami, hoping to convince the coaches that he's capable of going toe-to-toe in the all-star game.

Ochocinco told The Associated Press in a phone interview after practice that he's planning to kick field goals during practice on Friday. He's hoping to persuade AFC coaches that he could be more than a just receiver during the game on Sunday.

Ochocinco kicked an extra point and had a kickoff during a preseason game for the Bengals this season.

Dear Attention Whore:

There are guys who's job it is to kick the ball.  You are not allowed to take their Pro Bowl experience away from them.  BTW - You suck.

While I am all for people playing around during the game, unless the kicker gets to play WR, you should stay in your lane.

Since no one takes the game seriously anyway, I'd love to see this. If I knew this was going to happen, I might actually watch the game.

You may call him an "attention whore", I call him a guy who knows how to get his name out there (without it being in the news for killing someone or beating someone up). Its called marketing yourself.

Let him kick, catch, or coach. Hardly anyone cares either way. Let him have some fun.

I would like to see Linebackers play QB, Safeties playing o-line.  I wanna see everyone playing wherever.  it will add to the fun.

I am with Brian.

And let the kicker play WR.  Particularly if he played WR in high school or college but was a good enough kicker to be an NFL kicker but not a good enough WR to be an NFL WR.  So he can get his one NFL reception.

I consider Favre to be an attention whore.  Ocho is just good clean fun.

I'm with StL. And yes, Chad Johnson is an attention whore too, sugar-coat it however you like.

I have no problem with Chad drawing attention to himself, so long as it's like this, in a positive way.  However, I don't think that he should be doing anything other than playing WR in the Pro Bowl, just because it's disrespectful to the kickers who've done so well during the season.

FYI -

The guy did kick an extra point last year in pre season.  He kicks a lot in practice, or so the story said.

^ I remember that he did that.  I just don't think the Pro Bowl is the arena to do it.  Like Dave said, it's disrespectful to the kickers who were picked to play in the game.  Unless they are going to let any player play any position that he wants to, I am against this.

I'm usually all for Ochocinco's showboating...I think it adds a little spice to the game, but this isn't the right thing to be doing. Let the kickers who actually are kickers enjoy their pro bowl experience, just as Ochocinco has enjoyed it. I really don't want to start seeing WR's kicking the ball, or linebackers playing QB, etc...

Me thinks the outrage over Ocho wanting to kick in the pro-bowl would not be as intense by some on this board if Nate Kaeding was still the AFC kicker.

Possibly by some, but my position isn't related at all to the NFL affiliation of the kickers involved.

Word.  I would feel the same whomever the AFC kicker was.

So it is safe to assume there would be the same level of outrage if Ronnie Brown had been selected to the probowl as a Runningback and suggested he be able to line up at QB once or twice to run the wildcat, because that would take away from the AFC QBs pro-bowl experience.   Roll Eyes
