Would I like him on Miami...hell ya!

Is it realistic....hell no.  He is going to have a huge price tag, and we know that this team doesn't overspend for players.  What is probably going to happen is Miami will draft a OLB in the mid-later rounds (Walterfootball.com has a mock draft of us taking Koa Misi, DE/OLB, Utah in the 3rd round, and although he is undersized, he is very athletic...just look at tape on him in the senior bowl).

Word. And I'm sure the same goes for any talented free agent out there. Sucks.

That may change.  Parcells isn't afraid to spend money on a big name FA, if the he feels that player will put the team over the top.

It makes sense to spend money on a FA if you feel your team is one or two players away from a superbowl run.  It does not make sense to do so if your team is 7 or 8 players and 3 years away.  I don't think the Dolphins are quite at a point where it quite make sense to start added in expensive final peices in, but if the Dolphins get there Parcells will spend the money.  It just has made sense to do so yet.

He's washed up. Don't let the stats fool you.

If he signs a big deal, he'll play for one and coast for the optional 2.

Get a younger player! Miami should be tired of these type of pick-ups!

I can't stand this kind of logic.

Would anyone have said in 2007 that 8-8 Arizona was 1-2 players away from a Super Bowl run?  How about 8-8 NYG in 2006? Or the 9-7 Seahawks in 2004?

Any team is not glaringly atrocious can, with the right amount of luck (which every Super Bowl participant needs), make a run.  If your team was in playoff contention last year, then they are a couple of players away.

There is no such thing as a 4- or 5-year plan in today's NFL.  The rosters are too volatile.  Any team, no matter how pathetic, can easily go from the bottom of the league to title contender in 3 years.  In 2007, MIA was 1-15 and NYJ was 4-12; MIA won the division in 2008 and NYJ was in the conference championship in 2009.  Look at the 2005 Saints (3-13) for another example.

I agree there is no such thing as a 4 or 5 year plan.  But there is a 2 or 3 year plan.

There is no point in spending megabucks on a one or two year big name franchise player coming off of a 1-15 season.  And Tenshots contention is that because Parcells didn't spend in 2008 or 2009 he won't spend in 2010 or 2011, I say that line of thinking is flawed.  It didn't make sense to to spend in 2008 or 2009 that might be different in 2010 or 2011.

Not great examples, IMO.  The Giants were talked about heavily as one of the overall most talented football teams and their knock was underperforming.  The Seahawks were always a consideration because of coach Holmgren (sp?).  I guess I could give you the Cardinals as a good example, but because of their history they put themselves in a postion where they had to show us before we would believe it.

As far as going after Peppers...  I would say we are in a position to be able to go after him.  I would never offer him anything in the range of what Dan Snyder would typically offer, but he is a very good player and should be paid well.  Being that he is from the Carolina's, don't be surprised if he really wants to play in a place like Miami.  The Dolphins are very popular in the Carolina's because of their history of not having a NFL franchise.  Peppers may be willing to sign a reasonable deal to land in a place like Miami over one of the declining franchises that just wants to throw money around.

Let's not throw a bunch of money at a "name" player who is past his prime.

Maybe you are right; age thirty is getting into this kind of discussion.  However, he isn't exactly so old that I wouldn't consider it.  I figure he has at least 3 years of great football in him before he starts to lose a step.

I'd Argue, that years of Top 15 picks Finally paid off.....Talking about the Cardinals....Modified to add,and your post refers to all NFC Teams,Where the AFC has perennially the past ten years been dominated by teams Like the Patriots,Colts, and The Chargers...

we have some talent at OLB now though.  I think Porter is addition by subtraction based on what's coming out in the papers now, and I also think that between Taylor, Cameron Wake and Charlie Anderson we will play well enough at that spot not to take a chance on a F/A OLB.  In the middle is a different story.  I'd rather see us draft OLB and see if we can't develop one and increase our depth at the same time.

Don't we already have 2 or 3 of these type of people on defense?

Wasn't Taylor only on a one year deal? He may very well be gone.

funny how people say anyone can win the super bowl in 2-3 years, yet give an example of a 5 year plan  Grin

right now the dolphins are going into year 3 from 1-15. anyone really think they have the same amount of talent to go through the tournament and win the super bowl now?
