I tend to watch quite a bit of Top Gear, and they have cool wall (I haven't seen it on the newer episodes) They have a picture of a car, and they ask is it " Seriously Uncool", "Uncool", "Cool", and "Sub Zero","Super cool" It's sort of changed, they've added to it....

So I thought this could be fun,if We sort of had TDMMC cool wall....but not just cars...everything! (but Since I did steal the idea from a car show, I thought I'd pay homage to it by starting with a car) I'[m also curious to see how cool some things really are....

So here's the gist....A subject is posted you vote...
Seriously un Cool
Un Cool

Pretty Cool
Super Cool

(I got a feeling everything is going to be pretty much in the middle)

Subject 1...Owning, and Driving a Hybrid Electric Car....

I voted super-cool since the engineering involved is remarkable.  I think the early ones are ugly as shit but they've been getting nicer.

i voted un-cool because it's a smoke and mirrors machine .. it tries to do two things and does neither well and reeks of compromise

develop an all electric car, it's orders of magnitude more efficient and therefore also more cool

Seriously un cool.
It is just a way for people to visualize their hipness and show they are pseudo green.
Studies have shown that for the extra costs of the hybrids, you would have to drive one 100,000 miles to make up the price difference from buying something like a Focus that gets excellent gas milage.

Most don't buy them to save money. They're bought because they're supposedly cleaner. No?

They are not that much cleaner. They still burn the same gas, they just require a little smaller amount to do it.
For the cost difference, I would expect the hybrids to be significantly more. Lets not even get into the blatant commercialization that is hybrid SUV's.
As an example. The 11 v6 Mustang will have 300hp and get 30mpg with an automatic trans. I would rather spend my money on that car, than an ugly hybrid that costs more and might get half again better milage at best than the Mustang.

For me personally,I'm a redneck,I'm pretty sure they make a Hybrid  truck...I don't know anyone that has one. Most of the People I know don't want brand new trucks, they aren't worth a shit, pulling stock trailer, hauling lumber, going 4 wheeling (they tend to be too pretty  Cheesy )....Too me they're ugly little cars...So I voted uncool....

Different strokes. I'd never get a Mustang. They're douchemobiles.

I read something about them giving up on their current in-production car, making their upcoming, not-yet-complete car an all or nothing proposition.

Yes the just got 500 million dollars from the Feds for thier cars. With that juicy taxpayer infusion the price should drop from 110k to just over 80k.
All we have to do is give them a couple billion more and then we regular people might be able to afford one.

Why is it a douchemobile?? If you look at just about every car and there are douche owners. I would offer up that many Prius and other hybrid owners are douches as they look down on other drivers and act as if they are superior because they bought a hybrid.

Mustangs fall under what I call "pussy machines". It reeks of guys thinking they're hot shit for having a "muscle car". (Yes I know a few on the board drive a Mustang...)
It's not just Mustangs. There are others, of course.

I do think the Prius comes with a bit of pretentiousness. But, at least they're not killing the environment or douchemobiles.

I think people's cars say a LOT about them. I tend to date guys that drive older, sensible cars. Not sure what that means.

A rare occasion where I disagree with ya, Buddha... I think applying character values to a driver based on what type of car they drive sounds about as douchey as it gets. Quality people and douche alike drive both Prius and Mustang. Period.
