For a 5th round pick. The jets continue to extend the gap between themselves and Miami. Hey fat tuna feel free to your job and stop sleeping at the wheel. The jets front office is just embarrasing miami's right now.

The Dolphins continue to be stuck on stupid.

Santonio Holmes is a Jet. Let the footballs fly. I don't buy this character issue thing. All teams have characters on it. A great head coach can put his foot down and control characters and if they don't work out, show them the door or suspend them. If Rex Ryan has the backing of management as far as player conduct, I don't see Holmes being a problem.

Every team in the AFC East has a legitimate deep threat except Miami. Not unless they are depending on Ronnie Brown to play receiver, quarterback, running back or tight end. The Dolphins at this time have no choice but to draft Dez Bryant or swing a deal for Brandon Marshall. That's the only redeeming quality they have.

Don Shula had characters (Jake Scott, Mercury Morris and Bryan Cox) on his team and he was able to channel that attitude to the field. We'll see if Rex Ryan can do that.

I'm not a Jet fan but this is the first time in 40 plus years that the front office looks like they know what they are doing.

Dustin Keller, Braylon Edwards and Santonio Holmes. Miami better get Vontae Davis and Sean Smith some reinforcements.

Knew I was right in thinking this belonged in the anti-fins section, rather than "Around the NFL"...

GoCowboys to Parcells = Tepop to Ronnie Brown

It would certainly appear that we trail the Jets in the personel department. I certainly hope that isn't the case.

^^^ Yeah, but if Miami had signed Santonio, GoCowboys would have simply adjusted his post to dog Parcells for bringing in a guy with off the field issues.

You just have to be able to spot the chronic complainers and filter accordingly...

Agreed w/ GC and Ethurst. 3 years later Miami still has shitload of holes to fill, and 3 years later NY is looking at a division title, playoffs, and possibly more.  Jesus...  At least we have a lot of nice guys on our team...

^^^ Three years ago, Miami and the Jets weren't sitting in the same position, as the Jets already had begun replacing their old talent with young studs. Expecting Miami to be at the same stage now as New York would seem a little naive.

Dude, Miami's been "rebuilding" since Wannstedt left. And 3 years ago Miami started "rebuilding" again. Regardless of the coaching staff, all we have to show for it is Ronnie Brown and Jake Long? Sorry brother, just frustrating.

Holmes has 1 year left on his contract and there's no extension. He'll almost certainly be sitting out the first 4 games of the season, so this is essentially an 8-game deal.

Would you give our 5th round pick for 8 games of Santonio Holmes?

Not sure I would. (Wouldn't be strongly against it, though).

I agree...it's frustrating, but you're oversimplifying our assets in order to feel badly about things, and that just seems wrong. I think both of the 2nd year CBs should be listed there, as should some of our young D-line. You don't list Henne as an asset already in-hand, but I see him as exactly that.

I'm not seeing your glass as half empty at all...but I don't see it as full as the Jets' mug, which it shouldn't be, as they started on their current rebuilding job before we did, and thus have a bit of a head start.

the jets are simply signing "name" players in order to excite their fan base over the sale of the expensive psl's to their new stadium.

santonio is a good player, but the steelers wanted to get rid of him so bad they practically gave him away. lt2 is sooo classy that he literally threw the entire san diego organization under the bus on his way out. looking to add taylor to the mix as well...

so far the jets offseason strategy is to stock up on as many selfish, name recognition players as possible.

ESPN is saying that Holmes was suspended for the first 4 games, so FYO was right- this is an 8 game rental.

Plus, if he fails any other tests, he's gone for a season. We all saw how that worked out for the Fins with a certain RB, so maybe they decided not to touch that.

ESPN also stated that the Steelers called EVERY team, but no other teams had interest due to the off the field issues.

In my opinion this is a lot like the Dolphins signing Ferguson.  He wouldn't count against the 53 roster for the first 4 weeks.  After 4 weeks you will likely have a player on IR or realize one of your 53 isn't worth keeping around.  If after 4 weeks the other 53 are solid and you don't see Holmes improving the team you cut him then.
