Pat White muses about playing baseball over receiver
Posted by Mike Florio on April 13, 2010 2:38 PM ET
Dolphins quarterback Pat White, who at this time last year was regarded as an intriguing Wildcat-type prospect who could possibly develop into a full-time quarterback but whose future could be at receiver, was a disappointment as a rookie after being drafted in round two by the Dolphins as a quarterback.  There has been talk that he could be a training-camp casualty.

White recently launched a Twitter account, which we learned about when Texans running back Steve Slaton started stumping for followers for his former WVU teammate.  On Monday, White stated out of the blue that he's "better off going back to baseball than playing WR".

White was an accomplished baseball player.  Drafted multiple times during his college football career, there's reason for him to think the window could still be open.  He later explained that "it was just what I was feeling at the time so I said it," which of course is the logical genesis of the vast majority of human speech.  The real question is what prompted White to feel at the time that he's better off playing baseball than receiver?

Even if the comment wasn't a direct reaction to a topic that the team had broached with him, White essentially has put the Dolphins on notice of the fact that he won't be happy about the prospect of changing positions.

If V.P. of football operations Bill Parcells had a Twitter account, he'd probably post something like:  "@patwhite225 i don really giv a crap wat u think #justsayin".

I don't think White can be considering anything other than a solid bust-in-waiting. I have zero confidence that he'll ever contribute in some even marginally significant way.

Unless he put on 20lbs of muscle, he isn't going to be taking more than a handful of snaps all season, if that.

This story is overblown.  It was a passing comment from someone they haven't even confirmed is his account.  He later tweeted something like "I was just stirring the pot, you know I ain't going anywhere" or something like that.

I'd rather be building model cars and getting liquored up and playing nintendo.  But that doesn't mean I'm not going to work tomorrow.  Doesn't seem like much to read into.
