Report:Ginn on the Trading Block...

In recent days it has come to light that Miami is willing to consider trading Ronnie Brown, Tyler Thigpen and now Ginn.

After reading some of the comments under the Herald article, I had to add...

"I see a number of comments above that talk about not wanting to get rid of Ginn, and calling him "one of the few playmakers we have." I appreciated that comment, as I laughed for a full 5 minutes. Ted Ginn was arguably the best receiver in the NFL last season at NOT making plays. Look at the drop rates...look at the downfield play rates. All that speed isn't worth jack if you can't make a play with it, and the entire Ginn family has proven to be singularly bustalicious since they were erroneously drafted at #9 overall 3 years ago. Cut our losses, try to get a super-sized happy meal in trade for him, but accept the medium drink if that's all that's offered up. Then use the 2nd round pick on a Golden Tate or Arrelious Benn...someone you can project to start immediately, and a 5th or 6th rd pick on a good upside WR prospect like Marcus Easley or Shay Hodge."

The level you guys bash on Ginn is laughable and personally makes me embarressed to be a Dolphins fan.

Even when he had a good year and helped us win the division in 2008, you guys still bashed him.

Yeah, he had the dropsies last year, so did everyone else on the team.

He's not the playmaker we thought he was going to be, but certainly doesn't suck as bad as you say he does.

You guys make him out to be the worst receiver in the league.

A couple of thoughts...

First, you didn't actually dispute the numbers in the article.

Second, I've seen your karaoke video...well, 15-20 seconds of it anyway, and we have vastly different definitions of "embarrassed."

Best we'll get for Ginn is a 6th rounder I would think.  Although the Redskins have a history of really dumb moves so maybe they would give up something.  With Brandon Marshall on the way, I'd be willing to take a stale graham cracker and a pint of curdled milk for Ginn just to get him the hell out the way.  He's probably a decent guy and it wasn't his fault that the Dolphins picked him WAY too early, so I don't wish him any ill will.  But he drops the ball like it is a cactus being thrown at him, and Rhiannon is more willing to take a hit than Ted Ginn.  If my dumb ass knows this, then I'm sure the personnel folks at all of the prospective trade partners know it.

I would like to see just one year with Ginn and Marshall to see if we can get Ginn open downfield.  He doesn't make great catches in traffic, but if he is singled up and sent deep I think he can shine.

I think trading Ginn is a terrible idea.

He has value in special teams, if nothing else.  Marshall should take the heat off of Ginn to perform in the passing game.  I see no reason why you'd not want to keep him, let him play out his contract, and then think about letting him walk when he's up.
 
I think you could see more production from Ginn in the open field, if they can't play 2-deep coverage on him because Marshall is across the field.  A guy with speed always has value to your team, and there's no disputing that Ginn has speed.

Given the fact that Ginn has very little trade value, I agree.  If he had trade value, I wouldn't agree.  His biggest asset on special teams is his speed.  He still avoids contact and loses out on extra yards by running out of bounds when returning kicks.

I do agree with Brian that trading Ginn would be pointless (he has almost no trade value).  Cam Cameron was right when he said that Ginn was a weapon as a returner; he sucks as a receiver, but I think that as long as he's productive at the return game, he's worth a spot (at least until his contract is up).

He should be returning punts too, though.

Ginn doesn't have enough guts to return punts. If you think he drops passes wait until you see him staring at 11 guys running at him full speed.

Having Marshall may help Ginn become a better reciever though.  I say if Ginn doesn't have at least a decent year this year then get rid of him.
