A lot of technology has these,they're marketing terms that sound great,but are pretty meaningless....

Contrast ratio was always a funny one to me...
4G for cell phones....

It's not just T.V's,it all over...

So what are some industry terms that get thrown around,do you hate? Why?

Maybe it's just something that is true,under a certain set of circumstances,but marketing makes it sound like it happens every time....

Yeah, the problem with contrast ratio is that there is more than 1 way to figure it and it can be very deceiving to use one measurement when trying to compare to others using a different measurement.

When contrast ratio's were first being used to rate monitors, they were in the 1,000 to maybe 5,000 area and there really was a difference that could be seen when looking at the monitors.  The higher contrast ratio monitors did in fact look better for general use than the ones with lower contrast ratios.  Now however manufacturers have adopted a different way to measure contrast ratio which gives them a 10,000 to 50,000 ratio, but that's different from the original ratio.  Those same monitors still have about a 5,000 contrast ratio when using the earlier method I believe.  Not only that but it's a lot tougher to even see the difference in the monitor with the newer method.  The only way to really see it is to have a specific set of circumstances occur that doesn't occur all that often in general use.  It's pretty meaningless at best and downright deceptive at worst.

Mine is with cars.  I think that "Hemi" was a great marketing push by whoever it was (I think it was Dodge).  They just pushed that word into the lexicon, without explaining what it was.  It gave value to something that most people had no idea what it meant.

I just think there are too many TLA.  People just throw them out there without tell you what they mean.  It really is irresponsible.

This one kills me "Ultra" or "Ultra Concentrate" when dealing with liquid soaps....So you dilute it less,put it in a smaller bottle and charge me a 50 cents to a buck more for it?
