Besides the obvious goal of the Jets missing the playoffs, here is my goal for the 2010 season, simply stated:

A team wins the NFC West at 7-9, while an 11-win NFC team sits at home for the playoffs.

It's difficult, but still quite possible (and not too implausible).  Here are the dominoes I need to fall:

PHI:
win MIN+DAL, lose @NYG

NYG:
win @MIN+PHI+@WAS, lose @GB

NO:
win @BAL or @ATL, lose TB

TB:
win DET+SEA+@NO

CHI:
win NYJ+@MIN, lose @GB

GB:
win @NE+NYG+CHI (OK, this one is a little rough)

That would result in 7 teams (add ATL) jockeying for 5 spots.  Now, the NFC West's part (unfortunately, a 6-10 division champ is already out of the question):

SEA:
lose two of ATL, STL, @TB

STL:
lose two of KC, SF, @SEA

SF:
lose one of @SD, @STL, AZ

If everything fell my way, there'd actually be TWO 11-5 teams sitting at home, but that's just being greedy.  So for now, I'm just hoping that the cards come out in a manner such as to cause the largest possible uproar towards the NFL's front office.

Interesting way of phrasing it.  While it is theoretically possible for the Jets to miss the playoff w/o the Dolphins making it, the cleanest path to the Jets missing the playoffs is the Dolphins making the playoffs.  So shouldn't that be your goal instead?

^^ not if that wild card goes to the Colts/Jags or Chargers.  Its not the only way, and certainly not the most likely way.

TBH, I don't really care about making the playoffs this year.  I don't see us doing anything if we get there.

I prefer wins to losses (particularly since, as you stated, that's the easiest way to keep NYJ out), but the CHI game basically popped my bubble for this season, and the CLE game buried it.

I concur, especially with no offense so to speak.

Sorry my bad.  I was looking at standings that were not complete and thought the Dolphins had a led on Chargers and Jags and Colts were tied.

But okay one way to keep the Jets out is for the Dolphins to knock them out.  I would think that would be a Dolphin fans goal.

My primary goal (an 11-win team sitting at home) didn't happen, but I did get a 7-9 division champion (first division champ with a losing record in the history of American pro sports, I believe) and two 10-win teams sitting at home.

So I'm happy.
