I think the reason that Sparano needs to go is because of his love affair with henne. He anointed him the starter and has never looked back. Henne and the offense weren't very good in preseason and that continued throughout the entire season.  Henne is 27th out of 32 qbs who "qualify" in ANY/A this year. That just isn't very good.  Yet sparano said today that Henne played good yesterday, wtf? Seems like a joke.

Actually he said that Henne had the fewest mistakes of any game in which he started.  He didn't exactly say that Henne played good, just not as bad as people are making it out.  I for one agree with that Tony on that assessment.  Henne played well enough to put Miami up by 10 points with 5 minutes left in the game and then contributed to losing the game in the last 5 minutes.  So did the receivers and running backs.  So did the offensive line.  So did the defense.  So did the coaching staff.

It's convenient to blame the QB for a team's failures, it's just not accurate.

I don't put a lot of stock into these kinds of polls.  He approval was well above 50% 2 weeks ago and now it's down to 10%?  I think it's too directly related to wins/losses.

It's a fan rating which is subject to wild swings with wins and losses.  Means absolutely nothing in the big picture.

But imagine you're Ross and the Dolphins go out and lay an egg against New England and the fan rating drops to like 5%.  Do you feel a little extra pressure to get rid of him and give the fans hope even if you think Sparano isn't the problem?

He never looked back? Funny how you forget things. He benched Henne for Pennington, remember? Maybe you were too busy calling all of us "homers" to remember that. Even though technically speaking, you were being the Homer since you were in agreement with starting Pennington. (by definition, a Homer agrees with every move the team makes, and everyone else was questioning it, except for you).

BTW- I could care less if Sparano stays or goes.

If he goes, regardless of who the new coach is, everyone will be calling for his head after 2 seasons.

Same with the QB. So many people bitch and moan about how the Fins passed on Drew Brees in the draft years ago. Yet I saw a stat somewhere that his numbers and Hennes were almost identical through the same number of starts (part of the reason the Chargers did the draft and trade move with Manning/Rivers).  Fin fans would've chased Brees out of town.
So lets go ahead and ditch Henne. And draft another guy. And then ditch him after a year or two. And then draft another guy. then ditch him after a year or two.

It took him 8 games, and the chances of making the playoffs were very slim before he even tried to make a change.

Sparano sucks. It took some people a little longer to catch on. But now the reality of the situation has hit everyone square in the face. Sparano sucks. He must go

What you don't get is that the fans don't run anyone out or call for anyones head just for fun. The WIN/LOSS record is what gets these people fired!! It's a results oriented league. If you don't win you get FIRED! Sparano doesn't win, hence he will get FIRED!

i also don't care whether or not sparano and company stay or go...

wrt henne, how about we also point out the numerous qbs other than brees that had similar numbers to henne and actually sucked? guess what, all those qbs that the dolphins have ditched over the years, yeah they actually did suck too. i can't remember the dolphins ditching a qb over this span post-marino and him coming close to being a respectable backup or third string in this league.

Probably some pressure, but the swing would go the other way had we beaten the Lions.  Is Sparano any better or worse of a coach or a choice for the future because of a meaningless game at the end of the season?  That's all I mean.

And, by the time next season rolls around, people will have a different opinion.  People are so reactionary.  It's important that management doesn't react entirely to fans.  They will turn on you.

The fact we are playing "MEANINGLESS" games says a lot about Sparano!

Ross can't afford to ignore them either.

^^ True, but fans will show up if you are winning and they won't if you aren't.

That's the bottom line.  Fans don't know what is best for winning.  So, sure....you will get a bump in attendance if you get Cowher, but if he doesn't do better, the stadium will be empty then, too.
