Just announced today, in the new Batman film, Anne Hathaway will play Selina Kyle (who become Catwoman).  Thomas Hardy (he was the "shapeshifter" in Inception) will play Bane.

Thoughts?

Cool.  Sign me up.  I'm game.

I also hear the new Superman movie will be released for the holiday season of 2012.  I say bring that one, too.

I am ready for a new Christian Bale Batman movie...NOW, dammit!

I like Hathaway's potential as Catwoman...she's tasty enough to get the job done. I haven't seen most of her movies though, as the "Ella Enchanted," "Devil Wears Prada," "Bride Wars," "Princess Diaries" films just aren't my type of thing.

I haven't seen Inception yet, but absolutely loved Thomas Hardy's Handsome Bob character in RocknRolla, and from a "Villain Resume" perspective, he did a decent enough job in Star Trek Nemesis as Picard's evil clone, Praetor Shinzon.

I am just curious how he is going to be Bane as Bane was a beast of a man. Hardy is not a very big guy.

Hardy is bigger than you think.  He bulked up bigtime for his role in Bronson.

Besides, Nolan changes it up.  He doesn't portray the characters exactly how we're used to.  By that, Bane doesn't have to be freakishly large.  ...maybe just a jacked guy is enough.

Have you seen "Rachel getting married" or "Passengers"?  Those are a better representation of her acting ability in my humble opinion.  Personally I liked Passengers better, but I think Rachel getting married got more recognition for her.

^^^ Both of those movies really sound like they'd be the same type of movies as the other ones I listed...sappy romantic comedies.

'Stroke...You would really like Rachel getting married.
Hathaway plays a recovering addict who gets a leave for rehab for her sisters wedding.
The movie is far more about addiction than a wedding.
I assure you, you would enjoy it.

They're not.

Passengers is a bit of a thriller/mystery.  Anne plays the part of a psychologist assigned to several survivors of a plane crash to help them deal with the accident, but slowly all her patients stop showing up to the therapy sessions and Anne tries to figure out why.  There is a romantic link between her and one of the survivors but it's well done and pushes the plot along.  I really enjoyed it.

Rachel getting married is a drama.  Anne plays the part of a recovering drug abuser and she's actually quite good in the movie playing that role.  She's very edgy with deep seeded issues, nothing at all like the type of sappy characters she's played in the movies you mentioned.  I wasn't as sucked into this movie as I was the other, but she probably does a better job of acting in it.  It definately got more critical acclaim.

I believe I saw both of them on Netflix.  You can watch them instantly straight from the internet if you're a member of Netflix.

In more Super Hero movie news,

The big news is that Henry Cavil was cast as the new Superman.  They wanted a lesser known actor who hadn't hit it big yet.  You might've seen him in the show The Tudors.

New images have been released of Captain America, who has his own film coming up, but will also be part of the Avengers movie (with Iron Man, Thor, Hulk, and Spider-Man).

We got a tidbit of Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle news, just saying that the project is still alive.  It will also be a reboot and the script is currently being written by one of the writers of Iron Man, among others.

And lastly, the Spiderman reboot has begun filming and the word is that there will be more stunt/practical effects than before, when it was almost all computers.  Here is some footage from the set of a stunt guy swing around in the streets.

So, is it wrong that I'm mildly bummed that the new Superman stands only 6'1"?  Supes is supposed to be 6'4".  As he is by far my favorite hero (see avatar, left) I hope they get this right...

That's pretty close (at least they got a somewhat tall guy).  I don't think it matters.  On film, you can make people look any way you want with perspective.

I don't know this actor, so I can't comment on the casting, but I will say this: I hope they get a guy that can play Superman his own way.  I thought that Routh was UNBELIEVABLE as a Christopher Reeves impersonator.  However, they didn't give him the chance to play Superman himself.   I hope they introduce a more tortured version of the character with some conflict and perhaps an arch.
