2011 NFC East Champions!

Note: I hate Palmer. I think he's an interception throwing machine who will break your heart each and every week with his ridiculous inconsistency.

However, he is 1,000x better than both of your current QBs combined, and a major upgrade for Miami, despite the fact that he's the aforementioned 3rd tier QB that I think he is.

Palmer wants out of Cincinnati, quite possibly the best thought that has crossed his mind since becoming an NFL QB, because Cincinnati is a dump of a football team with a crappy organizational structure that hires nothing but miscreants and retread players.

Hey Dolphins owner Steven Ross, hop on a plane to Cincy and offer Palmer something he can't refuse before he takes a job in Arizona or SF.

I don't know about that.  He's under contract, so you'd have to trade for him.  I think that might be a nightmare scenario.

I'll pass.  I'd rather they take their chances on a middle round draft pick.

26 tds with 20 ints... high on the interceptions, but he's a huge upgrade over what we currently have. if it costs a 4th rounder (say with an upgrade to a conditional 3rd based on performance), i think you have to jump on it.

you can still keep henne on the roster hoping for some miracle that transforms him into a capable starter, with palmer as the starter.

I think that a 4th rounder is even high.  How many years does the guy have left?  It's almost worse if he does well and costs you a 3rd for 1-2 seasons.

He had TO and Ochocinco, he should have done a lot better, imo.

I'm actually taking the opposite view of this. I think TO and 85 are two thugs more concerned with being on VH1 and Twitter than playing football. Ditto for others on that team, too (Pacman Jones = thug, Tank Johnson = thug, Dhani Jones = wanna-be TV star).

I'm actually surprised that the Bengals didn't go 2-14 or 1-15 this year. I called their horrible season before the season started in an Around the NFL thread. All things considered, maybe Palmer did the best that he could given the team surrounding him?

Palmer can probably be had for a 4th round pick at this point in his career. At that asking price it would be dumb not to do it..

And trading for Palmer doesn't prevent you or stop you from drafting a QB. Even at #15!

Palmer can't be had. the owner said no way and that he thought the retirement talk was bogus. He had met with Carson and his agent prior to the agent releasing the statement.

Isn't his salary crazy high, too.

I'd rather have a guy like Vince Young over Palmer.  At least with Young, you can get some good years from him if he plays well.

I don't want Young but what worries me even more is I keep reading and hearing the same thing. I think he is going to be bad news for whoever he ends up with.

ur not really looking for a long term solution here.

right now you need to upgrade the qb position. palmer and young are both upgrades, and ireland needs to determine which would be the better route. you are still going to need another qb on the roster that you can develop into that future longer term starter.

if they decide they can still develop something out of henne, the window they have for a "stopgap" is probably a year. if they decide they still need to draft a qb to develop, the window they have for a "stopgap" is probably 2-3 years.

all in all, unless they are willing to give up a serious amount of high draft picks for a younger qb that can potentially be the guy, they are in the second tier market for short term solutions.

If the Dolphins really want a QB in the draft, they should do like they have in the past and take 2 of them.

In 2008 the Dolphins took 2 defensive line players, Philip Merling and Kendall Langford.  Langford has been the better player even though Merling was taken a round higher.

In 2009 the Dolphins took 2 CB's Vontae Davis and Sean Smith and 2 WR's Patrick Turner and Brian Hartline.  Davis has been the better corner although Smith has played pretty well at times too, but Hartline has been the better WR despite being taken a round later and Turner isn't even on the team anymore.

In 2010 the Dolphins took 4 LB's but only Koa Misi and A.J. Edds made the roster.  Misi has been better, but Edds has been hurt so it's a bit early to judge how that worked out.

If they really want to upgrade at the QB position, I say take 2 QB's and double your chances that you'll find one decent one.   There's room on the roster for 2 rookie QB's if they don't resign Thigpen and I really don't see a whole lot in the free agent market that I'm excited about.  Course that does mean that Henne is probably your starter at least for game 1 next year, but are we looking for a stop gap or for the long haul?  If we are in this for the long haul, they should take two rookie QB's and see which one pans out.  Besides, does anyone really see us competing in the AFC East next year anyway?  I doubt it.
