Trade was a steal for the Knicks. The Knicks aren't winning a championship this year or next. So its about getting that 2nd star player and setting yourself up for the next two offseasons to go get guys you want to put around Melo/Amare.

The Knicks have 2 of the Top 6 scorers in the NBA right now with this deal. You go grab Melo and look towards the future. The Knicks gave up nothing of quality at all. Bunch of guys who were leaving anyway and a bunch of scrubs who are bench players.

And they now have the least talented team in the league defensively. So we'll see how that works out.

they had that BEFORE this trade went through. now they have that with Carmelo

it's clear you hate the Knicks and thats fine. But you are using no logic at all. They aren't built to win a championship today, that wasn't the plan. The plan is to build towards 2012!!!! You don't go from 10 years of hell to championship overnight. They are rebuilding and they have 2 huge building blocks now to build upon

If the only way to make this trade was to give up what we did, then I do it. However, I don't feel this was the case. I feel Walsh was playing it smart by waiting and making Denver realize they either trade Melo for cheap or get nothing for them. Then, Dolan stepped in(perhaps with Isiah's voice in his ear)and gave away a ton of players and assets.

In 2007 the Mets acquired Johan Santana for nothing, because there was no market for Johan. He was the best pitcher in the league, but not many teams could afford to give him his salary and even less had the prospects to make it work. When the Yankees and Red Sox balked, that just left one team; the Mets. Knowing this, the Mets gave Minnesota utter garbage, not even their top prospect.

This was the situation with Carmelo. Everyone knew he wasn't going anywhere but NY, so most teams didn't even bother. Anthony didn't even meet with the Nets owner until the last second because he just wanted NY. An intelligent man(Walsh)would see this and get Melo on the cheap. An utter retard(Dolan), would overpay when not necessary.

And that is why I am happy Carmelo is a Knick, but not hopeful for the future. As long as Dolan is in charge of this team, you can't have hope. He is East Coast Donald Sterling, although I think Sterling may have earned his fortune rather than suing his own father for it like Dolan did.

No. Their plan was to get lebron. Then it was to get Carmelo as a FA. And now it's to pray that the new cba allows them to add chris Paul.

The thing I don't like about new York teams. (one of many) is how overhyped everything is. Sure they got Carmelo. That doesn't put them above Atlanta much less any of the top 3 + orlando. NYK before melo were mediocre. Now they're a bad parody of the Phoenix suns meets golden state warriors circa 2008

And they didn't get Lebron. What do you want them to do, go in the corner and cry and stop trying to get better? I mean jesus christ.

Nobody is saying they are a championship team or better than Atlanta ...EXCEPT YOU!! They are rebuilding and this was the biggest and most important chip they had to have in their rebuilding process!

You are trying to make more of this than it really is. No KNicks fan is thinking they are winning anything anytime soon. They just know they are moving in the right direction for the first time after 10 years.

Im not even a Knicks fan but people who knock this trade just show their bias or lack of NBA knowledge!

This obviously makes the Knicks a better team, and that's what it's all about. They are not contending this year and they probably won't be Top 3 in the Conference next year. They just have a very good core now and can build on it. I am sure they plan on adding a 3rd max player in 2012 and they are now good enough to make it happen.

Amare was Step 1.
Carmelo is Step 2.
Paul/Deron is Step 3.

66.7% of the way there. As it stands right now, I think they are a 50 win team over a full season.
