a) What do you think the final outcome will be?

A small amount (few months) of jail time

b) What do you think SHOULD happen to him?

Thrown into the general population of the nastiest prison in America, with his pants tied down around his ankles.

Let the punishment fit the crime?

A. Maybe a little jail time as perjury is not a major crime.
B. Now that he has admitted he was using steroids, the HoF needs to take a serious look at all the people from the 80's and 90's ( steriod era) coming in the next decade or two. Pete Rose should be in the HoF before this arrogant prick.

He admitted it?  I thought he was still using the flax seed oil defense and blaming his trainer.

I doubt much happens to him, and frankly, not too much should happen to him. Yes, he committed perjury, but it's for something that didn't really deserve it's own investigation. Ooh, designer steroids. Big freaking deal.

Keep in mind, I hate Barry Bonds and think he is a disgrace, but I also hate Bill Clinton but do not agree with his impeachment because it was for something that just didn't matter.

That is admitting he took them. He is trying to get everyone to buy that he did not realize he was taking steriods. I am sure the sudden growth in his body and head was totally unnoticed.

I understand that lying under oath is a crime.  ...but I really question why he's getting asked these questions anyway.  It seems like such a colossal waste of time and resources, all to catch a guy that isn't a "criminal" by traditional standards.  Does putting Bonds in jail make us safer?  I just don't get what the goal is for the witch hunt.

They're making him a scapegoat.  I have no love for him, either, but he was far from the only player who took PED and lied about it.

I would gladly commute any and all jail time for Barry in exchange for removing every PED-enhanced statistical record put up by Barry, McGwire and Sosa from baseball's record book.

I'm confused about the tradition standards criminal. Isn't taking steroids against the law?

Lying under oath is a serious crime, as it should be. The fact he answered and lied is the crime. This will set the tone for future events so it should really be taken very seriously. Obviously no other athlete  other than McGwire had any respect for the law and paused before they spoke. That is very sad when you think about it.

Both of your examples were spinoffs from criminal investigations into other areas. This happens all the time in criminal investigations as leads turn up.
Both men could have avoided any criminal prosecution by admitting their mistakes, but they tried to lie their way out of it because of pride and arrogance.

Yeah, but speeding, jaywalking, and drinking beer on the sidewalk are also against the law, but I don't consider people who do those things criminals.

I don't think that the law has to vigorously hunt down and convict every person that commits a crime, if that crime isn't causing damage or risk to others.

Bonds probably lied under oath.  That is true.  But it's not about anything of consequence.  You'd be shaking him down for the sake of shaking him down.  He's not a danger to society that needs to be put in prison, is my point.  He hasn't wronged anyone else that deserves retribution, either, in my opinion.
