One of the ladies in our office was talking that her son's first dance is Friday. He's in 7th grade, and there have been others, but the girl he likes will be there, and in turn he wants to go.So this is his first dance, and she was asking us all these questions on what we'd do....It was funny seeing her so frantic, she's normally over-organized.

So what was your first dance? Did you have a crush on some one back then?

My first class party type things, were skate parties in elementary school. So I had some boy-girl interaction/dance type exposure fairly young...4th-5th grade. My first dance wasn't till I got to Webb city,in 7th grade where I had a girlfriend...who I just happened to lose my virginity a few years later.... Cheesy Cool

In high school I went to a couple of dances(1-2 home comings, maybe),the big one was the Senior prom.

My skate party crushes, Becky, and Amy. Becky was the popular girl, that I had a crush on but she used it to her advantage. Amy was my cool friend, that I had a secret crush on all the way through high school actually...

I like you spent time during elementary school at the skating rink. Each of the schools had designated days where the rink sent their own buses to pick up kids after school. As first school dance, it was also in the 7th grade. I didn't have a girlfirend and spent most of the time just hanging out, although I did get a couple dances in.

After that I only attending one school function dance and it really wasn't planned. Some friends and I discovered a week prior that a girl we knew kept her beer in the hatchback of her car and she didn't lock it. We knew she would be at the dance so we made a swing by once again to see if she kept it open once more. We decided we had better make an appearance inside just in case anyone saw us in the parking lot (we did not want to be discovered as the beer bandits since we had struck twice now).

During my junior & senior proms, I spent that time at a party and never even considered attending. I guess I thought I was too cool for it. I was trying to be a nonconformist. I was a two sport athlete (and team captain), but I wore the Hendrix, Zeppelin, Grateful Dead, etc. t-shirts and rejected anything I considered being a sheep. I didn't go to dances, I didn't order a class ring, and actually wanted to skip the graduation but I knew that wouldn't fly with my family.

I snuck into our local middle school (Prescott Junior High) dance when I was in 5th grade. Danced with two 7th grade girls, smoked up with a couple of middle school kids out behind the gym, and called it a night. I still remember that the band that was playing had a big cargo truck with hand-painted murals on the sides and a vertical sliding door on the back. On the sliding door, it stated in big letters:

"Don't laugh, lady...your daughter could be in here."

My first crush was in fifth grade, with this girl whom I will not name.  I remember on Valentine's day that year, when we did exchanges, I looked for her card, but did not find one from her.  I was crushed.  The next year, in sixth grade, we had lockers for the first time.  Mine was right above hers.  During a locker break, we were all rushing to get our books.  I was pulling mine out of my locker, and accidently dropped one.  I saw it was heading right for her head, I had just enough time to think "Oh crap this is not good," before it landed squarely on her head.  She and her friends thought I did it on purpose.  They treated me like an enemy for the rest of the year.

My first dance was freshman year in college.  I was interviewed by a girl looking to interview somebody battling depression.   I was battling depression at that time so I agreed to interview.  When she asked me how I dealt with depression, I mentioned I did a lot of extra-cirricular activities, including salsa dancing.  A girl nearby heard me and asked if I wanted to go dancing that Saturday.  We walked out Starbucks together and exchanged numbers.  I was worried she wouldn't call me that Saturday, but she did.  We had a great time and become friends for awhile.  Our friendship dissolved that summer, but she taught me how to respect myself in college and I went back and with the lessons she taugt, me, had four great more years at college.
