^^ I think that was his point.  Just because you're maligned by the fans and they are glad you're gone when you are gone, it doesn't necessarily mean you did a poor job while you were there.

Shula coached 33 years, with a 0.678 win percentage, 6 conference championships and 3 league titles
Wannstedt coached 11 years, to a 0.485 percentage, and no trophies.

You're going to compare these two guys?

Brian, you say that Wanny was pushed out the door, while Saban ran out the door, and conclude that Wanny is somehow worse than Saban as a result.
The greatest coach in our history (if not NFL history) was also pushed out the door.
Your point does not stand up to historical scrutiny.

P.S. What do Shula's Colts years and Wanny's Bears years have to do with the Dolphins?

Coaches are not defined by one incident, Spider.  And Brian didn't say that it was the sole reason.

Wanny's exit was one of many indications that he was not a good coach.
Shula's exit was one unfortunate blemish on an otherwise legendary career...a great coach who just wasn't the right guy to bring a team back for rebuilding.

Thank you, Dave.

Furthermore, I didn't say anything about being pushed out the door.  My comment was directed toward the general fan sentiment upon departure.

Wannstedt was probably retained about 1.5 seasons longer than he should have been.  When he left, the general population response was "THANK GOODNESS HE'S GONE"

For Saban, the response was the opposite.  It was similar to when Ricky "retired": rage, fury, betrayal, aggravation, and general distaste for the way it went down.  Fans, for the most part, were happy with him and didn't want him to leave.

Surely you can see the difference here.

I disagree with your assessment that fans were happy with Saban.  It was more of being upset about his blatant lying, after all his rhetoric about integrity and accountability and so on.

I was ready to show him the door after the Christmas game vs the Jets when Harrington had rallied the Dolphins back in the first half, and to start the second half, he benches Harrington for Lemon. He didn't even tell the team at halftime of the QB change. You could tell on TV because Joey headed for the field and Saban called him back. You could see Joey's body language. He was saying WTF??? Lemon comes in, and the Jets are able to expand their lead and win. To tell you the truth, I hated him from that point on, and was kind of glad when he left.

I say in honor of the upcoming season that only replacement players from the 1987 season should be eligible....I nominate Kyle Mackey.

All talk about Wanny and Saban.

What about the Douche that orchestrated what seems to be the drowning moment in Dolphins History.

Dude, Ted Ginn would have opened Marshall up and we would have seen the weapon he is. I'm STILL pissed about getting rid of Ginn.

Unless we go 4 wide Ginn isn't getting on the field. I'll take Hartline over Ginn any day of the week and TWICE on Sundays.

I agree with you Frimp.  Problem is Ginn can't catch in coverage.  I wish we still had his speed on the return game and I wish we still had a guy who could attract safety attention.  Could you imagine how open Marshall would be if the safeties had to watch Ginn streaking deep down the center of the field?  That's what makes Marshall dangerous - catching the ball in the open field.
