Draft Q for anyone...

With a number of teams here late in round one looking to trade out of the round, would you deal your 3rd rounder this year, plus future picks (no first rounders) to jump back into round one to take Ryan Mallett?
No, but I would to get him in the 2nd round.

Touche!  I would dangle a second rounder next year for one this year to grab Mallett.

At least we'll have great protection for our 3 and outs.

Atlanta gave up the following:  their first, second and fourth rounders in 2011 as well as their first and fourth rounders in 2012.  To me, that's mortgaging the future.  There were some good receivers to be had in the second and third rounds.  I would not have made that trade if I was Atlanta's GM.

Atlanta's GM did the right thing. He isn't looking for a WR to develop. He wants a day 1 Star WR. Someone who can step in and play at a high level now. Someone to pair with Roddy White and have a killer offense with. Because the team wants to win now!

You are so used to "reubilding mode" being a Fins Fan for so long, you forgot what it means to try and WIN A SUPER BOWL!! Atlanta is trying to win a Super Bowl. 4th round picks...who cares!!! Seriously, this is the #1 seed in the NFC last year that just added a Top 6 pick in the NFL Draft!

They will trade at least 1 away. Maybe 2.

The stockpiling of picks every year is nice, but at some point use him. They just trade for the sake of trading sometimes I think.

I saw Mort on Twitter saying Mallett might slip to Rd 4. I don't buy that for one second, but its out there.

Ya I don't either, but if he's there for us in round 3 we better draft him.

If he is there in Rd 3 and we pass on him, I take back the nice things I said about Ireland last night  Grin

But they pretty much mortgaged their future to get Julio Jones.   It's only a matter of time before the Piper comes to collect.

yea, I think the Falcons showed too much Cojones and gave up a alot to select Julio.  I'm a Bama fan and I think he's a solid player, great blocker, and works hard.  like Gruden said, he did have a lot of drops, easy ones mind you.  I watched these games and couldnt believe some of the drops he had, with no one around him.  I guess just a lack of focus.

all in all, a great player, but to give up that much with the picks might come back to burn Atlanta in the long run.  it will be interesting to see what the Brownies do with these picks.  you get that many picks dropped in your lap, you better produce something with them

some organizations make bold moves to build a contenders. others pick "safe", and fist pump field goals, punts and 2 yard runs.

I remember seeing the Fins in "win now" mode.  1993 and 1995 in particular are the years that stand out for me.  Look where that got them.  I agree with Atlanta's mentality, but when you butcher your next two drafts to move so far up to take one player, you better be spot on.  Like I said earlier on, Atlanta probably has a three or four year window to win it all.  After that, the effects of losing all those picks will show.

If Mallett makes it past my 49ers in round two, I will be extremely unamused...

I probably wouldn't...I'd have to absolutely love him,to sacrifice a guy that would more than likely have an impact this year a RB,or TE (as opposed to a QB that might ride the pine for most,if not all the year). Any other year maybe...

I am ready to see QBs being drafted...so I'm lighting candles for Mallett to go to SF and Miami to find a way to get either Kaepernick or Dalton. Not sure either QB will last to Miami's 3rd round pick though, so it will possibly take a trade to make that happen.
