Donovan McNabb

Call me crazy, but I have always wanted McNabb in Miami.

A couple things:

1 -- I know some of you think that he'll never get where he needs to be, some of you thinks with more time he will.  So, if nothing else, it wouldn't HURT to have Henne as the back up for now.  Signing McNabb would allow Miami to have a back up in place that knows the system well in the event of an emergency -- and give him more time to get whatever it is he needs to get "right."

2 -- Signing McNabb would also give Miami another window, although small, to draft another QB and groom him.  I think McNabb is a better QB, at this moment, than Henne.  I don't see the down side to signing him to a two year deal.  Sign him with the foresight that he's a stop gap and then look to draft your "QB of the future" next April.  This "QB of the future" could sit for one season under McNabb while he plays out his final year of a two year deal.

I like McNabb.  I know some of you will rip me for this, but it is what it is...

I like the idea, but I'd rather have Carson Palmer or Kevin Kolb over McNabb.  The trouble is, both those guys will cost draft picks.

I am completely against any QB solution that involves Miami giving up picks.

That being said, if Ireland wants to go get McNabb/Hasselbeck/Bulger/whoever, go nuts.

im all for upgrading the qb position... this team can make some noise if they go out and get a quarterback.

if he could get his head straight, vince young would be the perfect fit. mcnabb is the safer bet, and would still be a significant upgrade over henne right now.

Palmer or McNabb I am ok with......Kolb I still have yet to see what the hype is with this guy as he hasn't proved anything on the NFL level yet and haven't we taken enough chances on hype!!!!!

McNabb is better than anyone we have. So I am for it.

BUT, he does have drawbacks though. Refused to wear a wristband with plays on it last year in Washington (nobody understood why),. He won't spend the offseason (if he is here past this season of course) in Miami, he lives in Arizona and doesn't leave there to workout with teammates.

For a 1 year stop-gap, Im all for it though.

I'd just as soon have a tooth pulled. I get zero excitement from him and in fact have always felt he never reached his potential. Now that he is on his downside I see no reason to want him. He would just be one more reason why we stalled the process of growing.

CF, the only "growing" we can do at that position this year is with Henne.  Is that what you're looking for?

If he is the best new option then yes, Henne. If not him then Thigpen or whoever.  I just think you have a better chance of a John Beck type (second chance QB) growing with the offense then you do of spending a year or so on a stop gap and then having to start over. If we were just a QB away from winning then I'd mortgage the farm to get a QB. The sad fact is I feel we need much of the team to develop just as much as we need the QB position to do so if that happens and then our QB of choice is done at that point, ala Penington, we are back to square one with an inexperinced developing QB.  I feel it is a cycle we need to get out of.

Hey if this lockout goes on and they start announcing the canceling of games, I'm all for "SUCK FOR LUCK"....cause next year is gonna be a "down NFL year" anyway with pissed off fans, out of shape players, no real free agency, and just a cluster F&*K as a whole. Might as well make the most of it and get the next Peyton Manning type QB to come along! Swallow the pill for a few months and set up the next 15 years!!

McNabb, no.  I don't think he's good enough to get this team to where it needs to be and I don't like the fact that he's been publicly outed twice (last year and in his only superbowl appearance) for not being in shape to run a basic two minute drill. 

Bulger, Carson Palmer maybe.  They have an injury history.  Kolb I'm not sold as being much better than Henne. 

It's fine if you want to make the argument that we need a new quarterback, but this isn't the year to go and get one for much more than pushing Henne through camp.  Every name has a questionmark (injury history and erratic play) or wasn't worth a shit to begin with.

What if Luck has a career ending injury in his last year at college?  and I don't think you could convince a group of athletes to throw games for any reason.  I know I wouldn't.

The players are going to listen to a coach who does not want them to win?  I just don't see it.  Even if that would happen, "throwing" a season to get the first draft pick could backfire in your face if said draft pick got injured prior to the draft or tanked in his senior year or turned out to be a bust.  These are unlikely to happen but not outside the realm of possibility.  Additionally, I would not remain a fan of a team who was losing on purpose, no matter what the ultimate goal was.
