You misunderstand.  A coach can influence the game (without explicitly throwing it) by playing younger players ("so they can develop"), or by calling an ultra-conservative game that keeps his team from doing anything unexpected.

I'm guessing you're not much of an NBA fan; tanking is a rather common criticism leveled at teams in that league (both because it isn't that hard, and because one single pick can dramatically change an NBA team).

Nobody said throw games. Just keep playing Henne or even better play Thigpen. Neither one of those guys can win ya a lot of anything on their best days!!! Especially for a team with little to no playmakers/skill position talent like Miami has

You guess right, but NBA only has 5 guys out there at a time.

Sparano's fighting for his job, he's not gonna be throwing any games.  If it were one, or maybe two games, at the end of the season the players may take it easy.  I just don't see Miami being that bad this year.

nobody said throw games. But if Petterson has Ross's ear and they block Ireland from upgrading the QB positions. It's a roundabout way of tanking the season cause you know Henne can't do anything. Not saying it will happen. But it could and with Ross showing his true colors last year it wouldn't be shocking.

^^^Just for clarification; Actually, Stl FinFan mentioned "throwing" games, and Spider-Dan mentioned the coach "influencing" the game without actually throwing it.  When I talked about Sparano NOT "throwing" a game I was referring to not giving a 100%, or playing players that Won't give you the best chance to win, or being in suck mode so you can draft Luck.  Sparano's just not gonna do that.  Now if any team happens to be 1-13, then I could see playing some second/third stringers to give them experience.

Who says Sparano will be around come Week 5 or 6? Seriously, if we start slow Ross will can his butt, and put in a guy who will do what Peterson/Ross wants. If that means playing kids giving us a lesser chance to win to get a good pick, so be it. Some assistant will do that to be a head coach and be able to put that on his resume and get a raise.

Not saying it will happen.....but it has been done before.
