Really?

Quote
"I can't talk about the details of the incident because it's still an open case, but I did talk to the state attorney's office last month and the one thing I made clear was my wife did not stab me. She didn't assault me. We were having a marital dispute that got heated, but it didn't happen as reported," Marshall said.

I gotta believe now he's protecting her.  Explain how, then, you ended up in the hospital now...?

Come on, we're not dumb.  Roll Eyes

I can only hope she gets some jail time so that he can divorce her.  I was more interested in the rest of the article, It's good to see he is working hard in the off season to get his speed back.  He was complementary of Bess, and seemed to realize he wasn't as professional as he could have been last year due to his frustration.  Looks like he'll be starting the season with the right attitude.

One isn't necessarily incluse or exclusionary of the other.

^^^ You are correct, but in reading the article it sounds like he is still hung up on her a bit, the forced seperation may put an end to it.

The man is nuts.

Hope we cut him and save some cap money. We can finish in 3rd place with or without him. Not like he was all that special on the field last year anyway. He was an ordinary player in about 14 of the 16 games

MikeO, give the guy a chance to make a comeback.  He's working hard.  If he puts in the work and still sucks, then maybe.  But we've seen what he can do in Denver, I don't know why you'd just wanna jettison that guy and that potential to "save some cap money."

Problem is if we don't cut him within the first 30 days of the new league season he kills our salary cap for years to come because of the way his contract was worded. It's not "some" cap money, its a real LOT of cap money we save!!! We cut him within a month and our hands are clean and our cap is in a better place.

The guy is a walking disaster off the field, his fault or not.....its always something. And on the field his production slipped.  There isn't one good reason to keep him. But since our head coach and GM have their butts on the hot seat we probably will and in the end they will still get canned and we will have the anchor of Marshall's bad contract holding us back and holding back the new GM and head coach a year from now. Which means more years of mediore Dolphins football on the horizon. And then in 5 years everyone will look back and say how stupid we were for keeping this clown around like we did.

I think he's worth the risk. Just my opinion, of course...

He is the best receiver we have right now, and the best one we have had in several years.

I would say that is one good reason to keep him.

Two years ago he was the in the top 3 in the league.  He had one bad season.

Now he is battling Randy Moss in a "I can run faster than you" battle.  They're both maxing out at 24 MPH.  They would be speeding if they ran thru a school zone.

I'm willing to take a risk on that.

He is also one personal conduct policy violation away from a 1 year suspension. He can't tell the truth about his wife stabbing him. And is NOT worth the investment this franchise is putting in with him.

We went through this once with Ricky and some people still don't learn. Keep touching the hot stove, expect a different result!

When we have another decade of total failure then maybe some of this stuff will start to sink in.

^^^ Even though I'm not a true 'Phins fan, I pray that they miraculously become a monster elite team, just to see if "happiness" and "cheerful" lie within MikeO's emotional range. Seriously, dude...you are non-stop road rage, minus the road.

On topic...I think Marshall has some serious issues upstairs he's dealing with that lead to the behavioral problems, but the talent is there - if he can keep those issues under control - that would allow him to be a true #1 WR for this team.

no rage, just an opinion. There are numerous players on the Fins I can say nothing but nice things about! Marshall ain't one of them, sorry.

his behavorial problems aren't just 1 or 2 things. They started in college, got worse in Denver, and have continued in Miami. It's so far beyond one or two isolated incidents. This guy is bat-sh#t crazy! And you don't invest big money in those guys. Especially when it ties up your salary cap and handcuffs your team from being succesful in the long run.

But keep making the same mistakes over and over and expect different results!

Can you please enlighten us about what it is about his contract that will handcuff the team for the next 10 years?

well not ten years but a bunch.

If the Fins cut him within 30 days of the new league season esentially they paid him $12.5 mill for one year and there is no cap hit if they cut him because of the out-clause the Fins gave themselves in writing his deal of that 30-day window.

IF they keep him, the Fins are on the hook for $25 mill guaranteed over 3 years. And base salaries of $9.1 mill in 2013 and 2014. Meaning after that 30 day window if they cut him after next year at anytime that will be a large amount of "dead money" on the cap if things don't work out. Or if he violates the league personal conduct policy and is suspended for the year, or if he just under-performes like he did last year you are paying a guy premium money for lackluster results.

It's a big risk to take with ANYONE. But even bigger with this nut-case!
