I heard it was a conditional sixth rounder.

If it's a conditional 6th rounder, I am happy with this trade.  I think it's a good acquisition and an overall good fit.

However, being realistic, I don't think it's a game-changer.  Bush isn't exactly what we thought, but he's a guy you have to plan for and has some explosiveness.  As MikeO pointed out, he also adds quite a bit to the return game, which has been lackluster.

A step in the right direction, but not a big one.

A steal for a conditional 6th rounder.  Good trade.

I heard it was a conditional sixth rounder.

I've heard everything from a 5th to a 2nd. No one who knows is saying. Yet.

His contract looks done (and certainly doesn't smell like 2nd round):

$9.75M total for 2 years. $2.5M as a signing bonus, $2.5 as salary this year, and $4.5M next year. (Doesn't quite add up, I know.) [MODIFIED TO ADD: The remaining $250k appears to be a workout bonus according to local NO media.]

According to ESPN,  Jonathon Amaya (DB, spot duty in 10 games last year) will go to the Saints as part of the deal.

Reggie Bush has two new best friends.....Mike and Jake... Cheesy

I really hated the idea of Reggie Bush (signing him as a free agent) I thought he'd cost us big time, and he's just not worth it...While I don't like the idea of trading a pick,2 years ten million, I like it alot...

Call me nuts...but I would love this move more if they also could find a way to bring Ricky back. Say what you will, the guy still moved the pile up the middle.  I would love to see him for one more year.

Agreed....Bush is not an everydown back and Thomas is an unknown at this point. Ricky probably won't cost a lot and he can still move the rock. If nothing else it is probably a cheap insurance policy.

On a side note I do like the Bush signing as he adds that "homerun play' ability and hopefully we use him as a return guy as well because he is a big upgrade in that department.

The days of 15 plays and 11 minute scoring drives could be gone. One little swing pass to Bush and he has the ability to take it to the house and out-run people and make people miss. Ricky/Ronnie can't make people miss and can't out-run people. We have a home run hitter. CHUNK-YARDAGE is the key term. Bush can give us CHUNK YARDAGE. No more 3 or 4 yard plays and slow moving football
Just for grins I looked up the stats on Reggie Bush last year. He had one 20+ yard run last year and no touchdowns and two 20+ yard receptions with 1 touchdown.  Granted that he didn't have a lot of carries, but he did catch quite a few passes for a RB last year. And that was with New Orleans who tends to have a much more explosive offense then Miami.  I'd say that Reggie has plenty of upside, but I'll believe it when I see him do it for the Dolphins.

Wasn't he injured most of last season? I think he only started like 6 games. I am not sure I would base much on that.

You Ricky Williams lovers need to get over it. He ain't coming back. You can't badmouth your coach, QB, and teammates and expect to return.

Ricky is finally gone from Miami. Who wants a 34 year old RB anyway. His days are numbered. And I don't see a lot of teams knocking his door down to sign him. And old RB who is constant "DRAMA" off the field. Lets see IF and WHEN he finds a home. Might not be till Week 3 or 4 after an injury in late September.

Gotta disagree there.  Reggie Bush is a game changer.  He doesn't have the size or durability to be an every down back, but he's got the speed and elusiveness to catch a 3 yard screen pass in open space and take it all the way.  That's something Ricky and Ronnie can't do.

OK, how about we talk about his career numbers then shall we?

http://www.miamiherald.com/2011/07/29/2335957/hoge-bush-is-a-matchup-guy-not.html

"Bush has gained 20 yards or more once every 52.4 carries (10 in 524 rushing attempts). That ratio ranks 39th among 51 active running backs with at least 400 carries, according to the Elias Sports Bureau. Chris Johnson is first, at once every 21. Bush is just behind Willis McGahee (51.4) and just ahead of Ronnie Brown (53.7). "

That's right, just ahead of RONNIE BROWN.

Oh well, that's running the ball, but when he catches it he's FAR more dangerous...

"As a receiver, 16 of Bush’s 294 catches have gone for 20 yards or more. That one-every-18.4 ratio is 30th among 42 active running backs with at least 100 receptions. The leader is Correll Buckhalter at once every 8.0."

Ok, but when he DOES break one, he takes it to the HOUSE!!!...

"Bush has two career rushes and three receptions of 40 yards or more."

"Bush has gained 20 yards or more once every 52.4 carries [...] Bush is just behind Willis McGahee (51.4) and just ahead of Ronnie Brown (53.7). "

In fairness, if you increased that to "40 yards or more", Bush would probably have around the same number (i.e. 10), while Ronnie Brown would be right around zero. (Note: I like Ronnie Brown.)
