Your link didn't take me to anything I thought confirmed the signing.  Here is one that I think is a little more clear and definitive...

I really don't know much about Burnett.  I thought Crowder was under rated in his ability to make reads on an offense.  I never saw Crowder get burnt in coverage and he was awesome against the run.  Biggest nock on Crowder's play was he was always a step late getting to the QB and missed a few games due to injury.

Is Burnett really an upgrade?

Oh my god, watch the MNF game vs Indy 2 years ago. Dallas Clark abused Crowder all game long. Crowder was terrible in coverage and has been his entire career.

Crowder is a nice player, nothing special. Burnett is a 1-year wonder (and an ex-Cowboy which is all we sign in Miami).....better than Crowder today. But not light-years better. But better

Doc -
Burnett's numbers with the Chargers last year...
95 tackles 6 sacks 2 FF 1 FR 2 INT (Career year)

Burnett's career numbers 28years old
88 games 309 tackles 12.5 sacks 6FF 1FR  3INT 2 TD's
http://espn.go.com/nfl/player/stats/_/id/8456/kevin-burnett

Crowder's numbers last year
11 games 39 tackles

Crowder's Career Numbers...27 years old
82 Games 469 tackles 2.5 sacks 3 FF 3FR
http://espn.go.com/nfl/player/stats/_/id/8484/channing-crowder

I think he'll work well in what we want to do in our defense, especially next to Karlos Dansby....

Burnett had more impact plays last year than Crowder has in his entire career that is the difference

We just got rid of a guy who runs his mouth more than makes plays, and replaced him with a guy who likes to respond where he should..... on the field.  BRILLIANT!!!!!

Oh my god, watch the MNF game vs Indy 2 years ago. Dallas Clark abused Crowder all game long. Crowder was terrible in coverage and has been his entire career.

Thought that was Y Bells assignment.  I am sure Crowder pulled some TE duty as well but on the plays Clark made it seemed like it was Y Bell's assignment.

Anyway, just looked at the career numbers for both and they are fairly close except for sacks (like I expected).  I hate looking at tackle stats as they just don't give a great picture of how things went.  Last year, our D-line was so good that the linebackers rarely got in on the tackle.  I am sure Burnett will be fine.  I just think Crowder was pretty good at lining up our defensive front and keying the guys in to what the offense was doing.

If we got rid of Crowder and didn't get a solid replacement, I would have been pissed.  Seems like we got a fairly even switch and a fresh face.
