John Clayton of ESPN is saying the Fins are interested.

@ClaytonESPN
Dolphins have cap room for TE Zach Miller. Raiders don't have room at moment but will try to re-sign him. They can get it done.

I am all for this move. He and Fassano would be a nice 1-2 punch at Tight End

Fasano was under-utilized as a receiver in our offense last year. He had a bit of a down year in 2009, but he played really well in 2008 and 2010. Like everyone on offense (hell, the whole team), he could have used some more touchdowns to pad his stats and he did have a some drops (like all the other receivers).

Overall, Zach Miller doesn't seem like an upgrade over Fasano to me. At least in terms of receiver skills. I have no idea what Miller can do in terms of blocking.

Oh my god Zach Miller is a huge upgrade. He is a match-up nightmare for opponents. Miller can't block at all, that is his downside, but as an offensive weapon on a scale of 1-10, Miller is a 9. Fassano is a 2.

Miller has speed, soft hands, and route running ability. He is in the Dallas Clark mold. Fassano is a blocker who is a solid TE but won't put fear in opponents.

The two have comparable yards per reception (and a matching career 12.0 yards per reception).

Looking at last year, they had the exact same "catch rate".

Neither of them score lot of touchdowns.

The biggest difference to me is how they are used in their respective offenses. And, like I said before, I think Fasano has been under-utilized in ours. His "value" per play is just significantly better than anyone else on the team (or Miller, for that matter).

And if Miller can't block...

According the Herald, there has been zero contact between Zach Miller and the Dolphins.

Zach Miller would definitely be a significant upgrade over Fasano. If Miami signed Zach Miller, he'd instantly become the most "talented receiver" Miami has had at the TE position in a fairly long time. I almost said "since Randy McMichael," but then I thought about it and I consider Zach Miller to be a better receiver than Randy.

For a team in need of help at TE, Miller would be a nice addition for sure.

its nice, would add another option for henne... te is one of those way overrated positions though.

i think a good pass catching te can help you more in the redzone, but... i remember last year that game where fasano was wide freaking open in the end zone, and henne threw the most ugly knuckle ball type duck way beyond where fasano was. at the end of the day, this qb isn't very effective in the red zone. more weapons might help, but nothing i have seen in his body of work to date suggests otherwise.

this was it ->  http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=giMXRwtc3sk   4:58 in this video. point blank, wide open, no one in his face, and just god ugly pass.

Word is, he wants more money than the Fins are willing to part with.

How would anyone know if the two sides have never spoken?

This smells like the rumor mill grinding out a story out of a few stray seeds (like someone "inside" was asked about Miller directly and said anything remotely positive).

Only one report is saying they haven't spoken. John Clayton and others are saying otherwise. Who's riht, I don't know. But don't assume the Herald article is fact. They have been wrong alot this week
