I'd like to see Grigsby get more play...try to develop him a bit, more than I want to see us recycle older veteran backs.

My initial feelings when I saw this were ok,I can see that...It seemed like we had gotten a bunch of speed guys, but lacked a good thunder back to go with the lightning backs....

Then I go look and see Daniel Thomas listed at 6' 230#,and Lex Hillard listed at 5'11" 240#...Larry Johnson Is 6'1" 228#...He used to run like a beast, but that was a couple of years ago... Undecided  Hasn't done squat in 2 years...

I'm not sure how to feel....

Well the only thing I can make of this is that they are happy with Bush being the "scat back" and still haven't decided who will be the "bread and butter" guy. Seems like Larry Johnson was brought in to compete with Thomas and Hilliard for that role. They had to make room somewhere and since Bush is staying, that didn't leave any room for Sheets. Personally I would have liked to seen them keep Sheets and drop Grigsby, but perhaps Grigsby fills some other role that Sheets doesn't?

Great signing.

In 2004.

I hope he has something in the tank, but I doubt it.  I'd have rathered Clinton Portis if we were going after older backs.

I thought he was retired. lol

I wanted a veteran back in here, but he's not exactly what I had in mind.

This says more about Sheets than Johnson, IMHO.

It says more about Thomas.  But they aren't going to cut their 2nd round pick from this year.  They had to get rid of Sheets over Hilliard due to lack of in game production.  Sheets injury last year really hurt his chances of making it in this league.  Very bad timing.

But I am actually ok with the Johnson pickup.  His big downfall has mostly been arrogance.  I like the timing of the pickup now that he has a chip on his shoulder.  Good fit, if he is in shape.

I don't understand why everyone is high on Sheets.  Who cares?  He hasn't shown anything.

I wanted a veteran back in here,

Why?

of all the positions RB is the easiest to learn you really don't need a vet.  AND it is one of the positions that tends to wear down folks.  Vet WR or QBs are good thing.  I will take rookie and 2nd year backs.

Personally, I wasn't exactly high on him but I was high on his potential as a role filler until we got Bush.  I think everyone that you considered "high" on him, was really high on our need for speed at that position.  We were also "high" on his potential for kick returns.

But overall you are right.  He hasn't done anything.  Of course that has a lot to do with injury.  Now that we brought in guys like Bush and Gates, Sheets ability to add speed to running back and kick return lost its intrigue.

He (Sheets) looked better in his second preseason game, so perhaps he will get a shot elsewhere.  Will be interesting to see if he can translate his speed to a game and be effective.  I don't blame our front office for moving on though.  Hilliard is good on special teams and as a backup full back, so he gets to stay for a bit but I wouldn't be surprised if this is his last year with us.

I scratched my head a little this morning when I read this on Facebook. I don't think Larry is even a shell of his former self and that concerns me a bit but then again we didn't really lose anything in the process so I don't think this move really hurt us either.

Larry has one job, when we get inside the 5 yard line punch it in the damn endzone. Thomas failed at that the other night the first time around, which raised a lot of red flags.

I don't think LJ beats out Lex anyway.
