I think it's crap and I'm not a fan of either college team.

I'm not a Canes or Gator fan, but I can see why a Canes fan would be upset with this. It's like if the Canes honored the Patriots 2001 Championship team at halftime of one of their games on some Saturday. That would piss off Fins Fans.

Just a ploy by Stephen Ross to make some money on a game that isn't selling a lot of tickets. So I get why he is doing it.  Just ain't right. But Canes fans got bigger issues now and this is the least of them!

That's a really bad analogy.

It would be like the Canes honoring Seminole High School (including Ray Ray Armstrong, Dyron Dye and Andre Dubose) for winning the 2008 State Championship in a game versus the Gators. I'm sure Miami Northwestern might not like it but it really isn't a big deal.

The Patriots have nothing to do with Florida and they are a "higher" division than the Canes.

I can't stand either school.  Having said that, I think it's stupid to be celebrating UF in Miami.

point is we share a stadium with the canes and we are "honoring" one of their rivals. If the Canes honored one of our rivals its the same thing. Nothing to do with location as much as it being a "rival" on some level.

I think it's hilarious.

Maybe if the Canes weren't busy cheating, they could be celebrating instead.

We don't share anything. Our owner rents the field to them just as he does the Marlins and any promoter that can afford it for their event. There isn't any connection between the Canes and Dolphins.

i don't get the dolphins business decisions sometimes. why the denver home game in particular? obviously because of the tim tebow factor. so if that is the case, won't fans of tebow drawn to this event be natural supporters of the broncos???

first get rid of day games in september heat advantage, now host events to draw in more fans of the opposing team. maybe the goal is to turn home games into truly away games so that they can win a few more of them.

its kinda like this

say JT won the super bowl last year with the Jets, then he becomes a coach at UM, the Saturday before the Phins play the jets UM decides to honor the jets superbowl team

or lets say they wanna honor Wilfork and the pats on the saturday before the phins play them on Monday night

and theres no connection, whats the connection that the dolphins have with the gators Huh

canes represent the same city, play in the same stadium and share a shit load of the same fans

I still think this is a bad analogy.  Look, I think it's a stupid idea but I don't think the Dolphins owe the Canes anything.  It's a way for him to try and capitalize off of Tebow's popularity here in the Sunshine State. Nothing more. If Cane's fans show up to boo them then that just helps his cause.

There are probably more Gator fans down here than Canes fans anyways.

It's a ploy to get more fans, sure.  Tebow is a big seller.  But who cares?  The Canes have no affiliation with the Dolphins.  They don't cross-market or anything.  They just rent the same field.

Also, in my opinion, the Gators and Canes aren't even rivals.  They want to be, but they hardly ever play.  The "rivalry" with the Gators and Canes pales in comparison to what either team has with FSU.

There are not more gator fans than canes fans down here. Not even close.

The canes might not have any affiliation with the dolphins but neither do the gators...so why do this at all? Like you said, it's a ploy. How about instead of creating the many "ploys" that this management has tried to create they actually go out and win more than 5-7 games a year? That's to much to ask. Instead they'll just put together a tribute to a team that has not only no affiliation with the dolphins but also not affiliation with south florida to fill seats.

By the way, I'm an FSU fan and hate the canes as much, maybe more, than the gators.

Also the Gator/Canes rivalry is just as big as the rivalry with the Noles. The reason why they hardly ever play anymore is cause the Gators stopped the yearly games after the canes became dominant in the late 80s.

they picked the Denver game because that home game has sold the fewest tickets thus far. And they wanted a gimmick to sell more tickets. So they created one

Armando of the Miami Herald on his radio show today reported the Fins offered the same deal to the honor the Canes 2000 team and they said no to a day.
