they picked the Denver game because that home game has sold the fewest tickets thus far. And they wanted a gimmick to sell more tickets. So they created one

that's fine, but do something that is affiliated to the dolphins. honor maddog again, invite some old former player back, do freaking something that is freaking dolphins related. i think zach krantz on the radio was saying maybe a themed "throwback" day. i dunno, one million other gimmick ideas you can think of besides inviting more fans of the opposing team to come celebrate.

nah, this owner could care less... day games in september with a heat advantage for the dolphins, nope need to sell later in the day tickets instead. need to generate more business for a game lacking interest, jump on the tebow bandwagon even if it means bringing in more opposing team fans.

obviously because of the tim tebow factor. so if that is the case, won't fans of tebow drawn to this event be natural supporters of the broncos???

Yes, because there are not any fans who like the Gators & the Dolphins.

compared to what? jags or bucs fans? i would say gators-dolphins fans would be in the significant minority.

and so what... if you are in the small minority gators-dolphins fans (relative to other pro affiliations), how would a gators reunion make you more likely to go to a game where you are already a fan of the pro team?

this has nothing to do with marketing to dolphins fans. that's the market that isn't buying tickets to this game. this has everything to do with targeting a broader market, pulling from a large base of tim tebow followers who in turn will be rooting for the donkeys.

I am able to divorce my thoughts about marketing with my thoughts about personnel and team management.

The orange carpet, celebrity owners, Club Liv, Gators reunion, etc. -- all that crap helps sell tickets.

Winning games sells tickets, too.  You can try both, with sacrificing one over the other.  I think all this outrage is misplaced.

Jags fans are in a minority in this state regardless of any college team you care to pair them with (the only exception may be within the Jacksonville area itself). Bucs, Dolphins may be a wash. In the area that is going to drive to a Dolphin's game though, hands down more Dolphin fans.

The better analogy would be if UM held a ceremony for Warren Sapp and the 2002 Super Bowl Champion Tampa Bay Buccaneers (during a UM game).  Which I guess would also be a total outrage?

Like the Dolphins and the Bucs, the Gators and the Hurricanes are not even in the same conference.

This is all a ploy to leverage Tebow mania to sell tickets.  I suspect the majority of Dolphins fans support the Hurricanes and would boo the crap out of the Gators, on the Canes' home field.

There are plenty of Gators on other teams, the Patriots come to mind.  But they chose the Broncos game because of Tebow.  Plain and simple.

Its poorly thought out, and in poor taste, if you ask me.  I have a feeling there will be more booing than honoring.  You'll see.

That's a really bad analogy.

It would be like the Canes honoring Seminole High School (including Ray Ray Armstrong, Dyron Dye and Andre Dubose) for winning the 2008 State Championship in a game versus the Gators. I'm sure Miami Northwestern might not like it but it really isn't a big deal.

The Patriots have nothing to do with Florida and they are a "higher" division than the Canes.

I agree.  If you somehow want to get the Patriots into an analogy.  It would be like the Patriots honoring the UConn women's basketball team for winning the NCAA Championship and some BC or BU fans getting their panties in a bunch.

The Dolphins don't care.  They want to fill their stadium.

We should be happy that we can fill the stadium at all.  I don't want our team to get shipped out, so whatever puts asses in the seats, I'm fine with it.

Shouldn't teams play each other regularly to consider it a rivalry?
