Tell me some more about the storied UF-UM rivalry, please.

Tell me about all the important games that they have played against each other.  Tell me about the big head-to-head upsets that cost one team a shot at the nat'l title.  Tell me about the conference championship-clinching wins.

The UF-UM "rivalry" is like 49ers-Raiders, Dodgers-Angels, or even Patriots-Colts.  The only time you care about the other team at all is when both are good.

So according to that article, Florida-Miami is almost as big of a rivalry as... Florida-Auburn?

I guess it's as big as the famous Dolphins-Raiders rivalry?  Or maybe Dolphins-Chargers?

lmfao, ask any canes fan what they think of the gators

gators are more hated the the noles

"For the Gators, the game never hit the heights of other Southeastern Conference rivalries like Auburn, Georgia and Tennessee -- or reached the crescendo of the annual meeting with Florida State."

thats cause they stopped playin us and took us off their schedule, they already tryin to bitch out again"

alot of people on this message board suffer from selective reading

So, ask any UM fan which team they hate more:

- the team from the same state that has 0 BCS appearances in the last 5 years, or
- the team from the same state that has 3 BCS appearances and 2 national championships in the same time frame

If you asked that same question in, say, 2005, I think you might have gotten a different answer.

Quote
"For the Gators, the game never hit the heights of other Southeastern Conference rivalries like Auburn, Georgia and Tennessee -- or reached the crescendo of the annual meeting with Florida State."

thats cause they stopped playin us and took us off their schedule, they already tryin to bitch out again
You have cause and effect switched up.  The very next sentence from your article:

"So Florida dropped the Hurricanes in 1988 because it wanted to play a 'more national schedule,' then promptly replaced them with Montana State. Miami fans accused the Gators of pulling out because the Hurricanes were dominating them -- on field and on the national scene."

In other words, Florida didn't really care about UM, and has never seen that team as a big deal; not as big as Auburn or Tennessee, and not as big as the Seminoles.  The last line from UM fans about Florida running scared is pretty silly, since (at the time of that article) Florida was 25-26 against Miami.

Selective reading, indeed.

This right here is why the Hurricanes and Gators hate each other.

I understand that play was a big deal and all, but it was 40 years ago.

You don't see today's Raider fans still raging at the Steelers over the Immaculate Reception.

I know enough to realize the two are right in the middle of a four year stretch where they don't play each other and then only have that one game planned in 2013 with no other games planned at this time. That sounds like one helluva a current rivalry.

Most of the current students at both colleges weren't born yet.

The alumni also make up a big part of the fan bases at these schools.  And they have memories like elephants.
